My dog Harley seen in one of my photo post pictures died this morning. My heart is completely shattered. No warning she simply fell over dead when Wendy took her out to P. We think it must have been a heart attack.I have no interest in much of anything at the moment and all I can do is cry same with Wendy and yes I am crying and probably will be for awhile. She was 8 yrs old. I have lost a deeply loved member of my family.

Sorry Man.

On a related note I never would have guessed your dog would be named Harley. Lucas perhaps. But not Harley.

My condolences, Ian!

I know this hurts deeply, and hope you and your family soon arrive to the point where your rememberences of Harley are only of those years of joy which you shared with her.

Dog,
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Pets are truly members of the family and I know / understand what you are going through. A few years back, I lost a cat named Jake after 5 years. I was the one who found him. I know nothing is going to take your mind off of your buddy, however, try and think of the great life you and Wendy gave him. It may have been short in a linear sense, but knowing you, I'll bet he had more joyous experiences and love than most.

God bless. You're in my prayers.

I truly know how you feel and having felt it, I am so sorry anyone ever has to feel that way. Eventually you'll be able to reminisce about the joy you shared; for now it's best just to grieve with your family. My deepest sympathies, my friend.

Ian,

I think missing pets when they're gone, means you treated them like the faithful companions they are when they were around.

Thank you all so very much for your well wishes. On the name note an X girl friend named her. I wanted to name her Ariel. Her name does not in anyway effect my feelings as I am sure you all know. I am so glad there are people out there who can understand the anguish of the loss of a family member. Thank you all again and I'll have Wendy read this thread I'm sure it will help her.

Ian & Wendy,
That is just terrible. It's so hard to lose a pet, I think because of the uneditted love that flows back and forth between us and them.
I’ve always liked the following and pass it on to my friends who lost their family member.

Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a
place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has
been especially close to someone
here, that pet goes to Rainbow
Bridge. There are meadows
and hills for all of our special
friends so they can run and
play together. There is plenty
of food and water and sunshine,
and our friends are warm
and comfortable.
All the animals who have been
ill and old are restored to health
and vigor; those who were hurt
or maimed are made whole
and strong again, just as we
remember them in our dreams
of days and times gone by. The
animals are happy and content,
except for one small thing- they
each miss someone very special to
them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together,
but the day comes when one
suddenly stops and looks into
the distance. His bright eyes are
intent, his eager body begins
to quiver. Suddenly he begins
to run from the group, flying
over the green grass, his legs
carring him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and
when you and your special friend
meet, you cling together in joyous
reunion, never to be parted
again. The happy kisses rain
upon your face, your hands again
caress the beloved head, and you
look once more into the trusting
eyes of your pet, so long gone
from your life, but never absent
from your heart.
Then together you and your
special friend cross the
Rainbow Bridge. -Author Unknown-

Ian and Wendy, so sorry about your loss of Harley. We lost our 8 yr old friend last winter and it isn't any easier knowing it's going to happen. We now keep her in a tiny oak box in our living room where we will never forget her. Always remember the good stuff.

I'm so sorry Ian. These little critters are our family members and it's not easy losing them. I have lost 2 myself. I have their ashes and talk to them both from time to time. And I cryed over both of them. Time heals. Take time to grieve and cherish the memories.

Sorry , Ian an Wendy , feel yer pain , dogs are not dogs , they are people , too ( so are cats ) . The joy that they bring over time supercedes the pain of their leaving us .

You have my sincerest sympathy. A family member for 8 years suddenly taken away. Dogs are special. They ask for so little.. food, water, time for a walk, time for play, a scratch behind the ear. But they return so much more...

Ian,
My condolences to you and Wendy. I am a dog dood myself.
We recently lost a Cocker Spaniel which was the first dog I ever had that would not ride with me.
My youngest daughter just bought a Pug, and he looks great with his little doo rag & goggles - no, he looks stupid like all Pugs. He is 4 months old and I will check him out soon as a riding buddy.
Sorry about your dear Harley.

Harley was a lucky dog to have companions like you who loved him enough to hurt so deeply. It's a double edged sword. My heart breaks for you, I have been there too.
