Does anyone have a PDF on how to remove the AI on the America? I just bought a kit to keep the blueing to a minimum, and I don't want to hose anything up whilst installing it (I already hosed up a set of stock pipes when I was bored by knocking out baffles - it is now my winter project). Is there anything special I need to keep in mind? Oh, and as long as I am asking questions... I picked up a 18T sprocket to replace the 17T stockie. Could a chimp install a new sprocket, or do I run a real risk of hosing something up by fiddling with it? Thanks in advance! - The Chimp

If you order the kit from Newspeedmaster.com the instructions come with the kit for $25.
We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

I ordered the kit, and it came with "instructions" much like IKEA - no real instruction, just a lot of inferential leaps. I was hoping to get something like Pat puts out on his pipes as well as jetting. Anyone...?

Pretty sure Pat has sprocket instructions on his site if you snoop around... The biggest thing with that is making sure the chain tension is correct and the wheel aligned. Baby steps...

I read over the instructions, and they seem a bit complicated. Is the install as complicated as it sounds? I really wish there were some pictures to accompany the instructions...

Just take your time and figure out what is what... if I can find a pic I took of the guys of the AI system, at leas you'll know what you are looking for. Basically there's a thing right next to each spark plug. Take the tank off (easier than it sounds) and follow the tubes up from each cylinder to the valve bolted to the frame. That in turn has a tube going to the air box. Yank it all out. Replace with the plugs for the cylinder heads and the plug in the air box. Done.

Ditto what the above guys said Chimp. I'm no wrench by any stretch and I managed to remove the AI in about 20 minutes using both the newspeedmaster.com and Jenks directions. Have at it dude. I find that everytime I manage to figure out a process on my America it gives me the 'courage' to dig into the next task.

go ahead and get the on-line instructions if you like. But i'll tell ya, i put it off for fear of getting halfway done and finding out I couldn't get the AI tubes out of the head. I had purchased a couple of different long sockets, but they were of no use. What worked for removing the AI tubes was a craftsman 13mm combination wrench. I put the 12pt boxed end over the tubes after removing the clips and hose. The angle of the wrench was perfect to clear the head and off they came.
Just take off the two seats, turn off the petcock and remove the gas line from the tank. Remove the warning light console, disconnect the electrical harness. Remove the tank, being careful to disconnect the breather hose from the right side of the tank.
Now you can get to the AI vacuum operated reed valve assy. Remove it and all the hoses. I used a screwdriver and pliers to bend the stainless steel clamp tab on the AI tubes. Once the hoses are off the tubes, remove them with the wrench. Plug the Air supply line hole in the airbox and the vacuum port on the left intake manifold.
I bought my kit from Brent at newspeedmaster.com. Install per the instructions. I used a copper based anti-seize compound on the threads of the AI port plugs. The torque setting I believe is the same as the spark plugs.
Spark Plug; 20Nm/14.76FtLb
reassemble everything, being carefull with the gas tank breather hose.
You don't gain much, but there will be much less heat generated in the exhaust headers.
