Something I've been mulling over... If "adventure touring" bikes really never leave asphalt and aren't really intended to (specifically the Tiger 1050), why choose it over a "sport touring" bike (specifically the Sprint ST)?

I'm 6'-3" and while I loved my ride on the Sprint, my neck was killing me after about 10 minutes. I have not ridden the '07 Tiger yet (I have VERY little self-control), but the ride on the '06 was just perfect for me. I think I could really rack up the miles with that riding position. Speedy runs out of gas every 124 miles (Exactly that many miles, trust me...) so I have to get off often to fill 'er up and that makes it possible to ride lots of miles. With the Tiger, I think I could complete an Ironbutt.

Exactly what TMSpeedy said. The riding position. Oh and around 220ish per tank out of the box.If you ride it, you WILL buy it. 400 miles in on mine and it is a hoot.

Then I'd better avoid it. The wife is still getting over my new car.

As stated, a more upright sitting position.
Oh, the engine is addictive.
I am not kidding.

(regarding off-road...I ride it over curbs, shortcuts through dirt, that's basically that's it )

It looks nice. I sat on one, it's too tall for me and I'm 6 foot tall.

I just sold my Yamaha FJR 1300.. Great bike, but it really was a bit too big for me. The Tiger and the Sprint are both about 150 lbs lighter. I've sat on the Sprint, hopped right off cause it was too high, but that was before I lowered the FJR. My mech put 1" shorter Wilber's rear shock and fork springs, Kuboda lowering links, Corbin seat and rebent the side stand so the bike would lean more. Then found out we had to take off the centerstand as well... <G> the bike was low! I've also seen an R6 with about 3 inches ground clearance, lady rider about 4'8" tall, maybe less.

If either the Tiger or the Sprint could be lowered, either would work well...next step... go sit on the Tiger....<G>

One of my coworkers was thinking about getting a Tiger,
He went to dealers to check them out. Told the dealer that he liked the bike but felt the 1050 engine may be too much for him (hes never ridden). Dealer told him to wait till next year because Triumph was going to come out with a 675cc tiger.

Anyone else heard anything like this?

I too am worried about the Sprint and my neck. I will ride at Biketoberfest.

Charlie let me ride his for a little yesterday. I couldn't get the grin off of my face.

Second gear I'm thinking, "wow this feels really fast but I'm only doing 80. Oh wait that's 80 miles not kilometres like on my speedo.

I'd love to try the Tiger since the reworked it, I hated the older style but I've sat on one and can't get flat-footed. I just don't think that is safe.

The new Tiger is an improvement over previous models in terms of seat height, but it isn't that much of an improvement for my 29-30 size.

Ditto here. I was at the dealer today, and, I must tell everyone (as has been said before), Do Not Ride the Tiger. Repeat - Do Not Ride the Tiger. It is indeed an awesome machine, but it is high for us short people. You will leave the dealership mad that Triumph forgot about us! You will want the bike, and you will have to face the fact that we are too short.

5'8" has really never bothered me until now. As I rode the America home I kept trying to convince myself that I really didn't need to have more than my tip toes on the ground.

The dealer said that there are a couple of lowering kits out there, and he is going to get the info for me.

Sweet ride indeed!!

I asked that same question, and he was unsure. He had heard 2 to 2.5 inches. Evidently it is not Triumph OEM parts. He is supposed to get back with me when he gets the information. I will post it when I hear.

Thanks Mike, I'm interested in hearing how much lower you can bring it. A quick google search and I mean quick, didn't bring anything up right away.

Yeah, me too. I couldn't find anything. I also searched through the Tiger forums on Triumphrat.net, and really didn't find that much about it either. I guess I'm one of the only short people around

I did a quick search there as well and nothing. That doesn't mean they're not out there it's just that in the 10-15 minutes that I took to look I couldn't find any info.

It is disconcerting to have the Tiger bug, I can't get the thing (more power, nice ride) outa my head. I may stop at Ma's Cycle in the next week or so, so they can convince me of my faulty thinking .

I would expect a 675 Tiger - would indeed be shocked if one were not already slated for introduction as an '09 model.

Question is though, how well suited would it be for two-up touring? (I guess that always depends on the "two", too.)

For what they have done in the last few years, as small a company as TRIUMPH is compared to the Big-4, and H-D, (and Ducati?) - TRIUMPH is really setting the motorcycle world on fire of late. Every new year brings a new "Bike of the Year" in a new class or category, and they are really cranking out the new models.

I think the 1500cc cruiser is just waiting for the American public to realize that 2L bikes really are too big to be practical, and the rest of the MC world will start revamping their mid-weights, too. (Mid-weights? 1300-1500cc "midweights"?) TRIUMPH already has an edge on HONDA and YAMAHA with as much as those two have put into their 1300cc models - it would not make much sense for them to abandon them for a while. KAWASAKI and SUZUKI though already have their 1500-1600cc V-Twins....injected and ready for battle...

That is one of the rumors. It will be called Tiger Cub (of course) and will be a true on/off road bike (think KLR 650).

After just 2 days and 250 miles on the Tiger I have to say it's a cool bike. I have to keep it under 5000 rpms still which is very hard to do.(5000 rpm in 6th is about 85 mph) All I want to do is slam the throttle open. This bike jumps when you say jump. The suspension is plush-I don't wince when I hit a bump or pothole anymore-The seats soft and comfortable. It's so fast, I just have to keep an eye on the speedo! Next week I have to go back to the dealer and get the heated grips installed. I bought it with the side hard bags. Don't know whether to get the center stand. Without it you can't jack up the bike with a bike lift. The exhaust is in the way. The cons are- It's a bit quiet(I may eventually go to the louder can-you get an extra 10 hp) and the windshield, while keeping the wind off my chest, hits me in the visor. There's no buffeting but I get a few extra bugs splattering on my face shield. I do miss the TBA's sound. Bradleyd, beanache and dmillikan also have a Tiger. I'm not leaving this board-made too many friends over these 5 1/2 years. Don't take it for a test ride if you aren't ready to buy

Matt, the heated grips are worth every dime. Get the center stand, makes lubing the chain and a thousand other task a breeze. I also got the TOR can and the re-map....makes a difference in the seat O the pants meter. I also installed a set of KTM handguards...they knock the wind off your hands and exponentially increases the effectiveness of the heated grips...along with carrying out the whole stealth fighter, evil look! Mine had a ton of slack in the throttle and the thing is so twitchy it was a bear to ride, adjust that to almost none and it makes life much easier. Also, check the shift linkage, I adjusted mine up one cog and it made it much better on the shift. Oh yeah, may need to adjust the brake lever up it was way down there as well. The TOR can is a touch louder but not much. LOL, that first 500 miles was terrible.....at around 6K it hits 110 MPH as an afterthought OOPS!!. The only thing I miss is the sound of that twin...it haunts me!!! You got the right color!!

Thanks for the info. I'm bringing the bike in on Wed for the 600 mile check. At that time the heated grips go on and the color covers for the hard cases. I'll have them check the throttle slack. I see what you mean by the shifter and brake. Is it, and adjusting the throttle an easy thing to do on my own? I'm going to get the TOR map but not put on the new can. I'll let you know how it goes. Right now I have to keep it under 6000 rpm. Sucks!

Yep, the shifter linkage is a 6MM allen and you just slide it off the splined shaft, rotate the assembly back one tooth and you should be set. The brake is a little more involved but simple. There are two nuts one in and one outboard of the clevis. Break those loose and spin the lower nut down as far as posible....raises the brake pedal just enough. The throttle, I could not get my tech to adjust. Something about Triumph mandating X MM's of slack. In front of your fork tubes, trace the throttle cables to where it just runs over the top of the tree, you will find a rubber "tylenol capsule" loking thing about 2.5" long...Slide that thing apart, take an 8mm and a 10, break that loose and spin it out until you get the freeplay you want, tighten the jamb nut back down and push the Tylenol capsule back together...tada. Oh yeah, on your shift linkage, break the nuts loose on the rod and put a dab of blue loctite on them....some guys have had those back off.

Enjoy the ride bud....it is a heckuva machine.

Been on a tiger 1050 for 6 months now but only managed 4800 miles so far(busy, busy) but have to echo all about its benefits.
I am 5'11+1/2(never quite made 6ft!!!!) and past 54 now so going other way!!! but I can still plant both feet without "lowering" have found that at bad or long waits it is easy to push the pegs back with the calfs to get legs more strait to ground and feel steadier.
There is talk "in house" of a ........ Tiger Cub possible 3rd variance of the 675.... (f***ing fit sports) street trip ...... (neat street) and a longer legged version would still be neat for the slightly vertically challenged.
But this is typical Triumph..... a la 1500'esk... maybe soon maybe Tiger Cub.
Back to the 1050 baby the best feeling I get is the way that I had grown up to use bikes purely for pleasure and avoid "starting" out when not absolutely neccessary in bad weather..... but this little baby gets me doning the gortex jacket and dragging her out even in horendous down pours. just to ride it is WELL GOOD.
Centre stand A MUST, some form of chain oiler A MUST, driving light mod to put on the main beam A MUST for nite rides.
Really NICE RIDE. just a shame the speedy had to go only room/food for 1 machine for dad, so many other fuel tanks in family to support!!!!!!
Cheers, Mike

PS the seat has a couple of options/profiles but there is a local bike upholsterer near us "smart rs" that is a bit good at modding/trimming down the foam, the best way to get better reach is to take out "width" from the seat foam this effectively lowers the bike getting your legs straighter when standing.

I tell you what-the seat is perfect for me. You guys get the TOR tune installed? I'm going to get it done and keep the OEM muffler.

Matt, as you adjust the cable, work the throttle...when you feel the throttle opening just as you crack the grip, you got it. I have the TOR tune and the offroad can.

I got to ride the '07 Tiger again last night - What a Dream! I'm seriously considering getting one when My Speedy is paid off.
