I,ve seen this scene before. Yesterday I was sitting at a stop light when two HD's approached from the left. One was raked out to about 89 degrees and the other was either a piglet (883) or sow (1200), and everyone had on full costume. Because I recognize all riders I waved, but alas it was a wasted wave since I got no response. The light eventually changed and I turned right and headed down the road. About 4 miles down the road on the right were the HD folks rooting around in the ditch on the side of the road. I think it was either a costume malfunction or a famous parts failure. Anyway I know they wern't snipe hunting because they didn't have a sack. Oh well........

Nothing unusual, I was ahead of a mate with a HD on a ride, lost view of him after a while in my mirrors turned round and yep he was on the side of the road looking for the remains of his battery box, battery was just hanging there the rest of the box was all over the place.

I have many bikes (yes more then one Harley). Everyone I know who rides a Harley thinks that all triumphs are cool especially old and new bonnies. I wave to anyone on two wheels(I will admit I've seen some A.H.s who don't). Whatever, I'm surprised at the Harley bashing I see on this site since most of the B.S. I hear about triumph's from performance freaks echoes the same crap they say about Harley. It may be time for us to embrace our brothers here in the U.S. Harley has developed an unparalleled brand loyalty with a cult following.Sounds like exactly what we're talking about. O.K. I'm ready go ahead stone me.(I've been stoned before)

Well, pass it along.......
I think most is just good natured ribbing.
The more hostile bashing is fed by those who have to outfit themselves in HD logos everywhere imaginable, and act snobbish about it. That would go for Bimmer riders, Duck riders, etc. as well. Whoever falls into the whole marketed image thing.

It just isnt as fun to pick on Ural or Enfields. I like bikes, most all bikes, but, I love my Triumph. Have good friends that ride Harleys, we give each other a hard time about our bikes often, its all in fun. Soren

I'm not even sure how to reply.... I wasn't harley bashing- I'm sure harleys are fine motorcycles. I was taking a poke at a couple of "cult following" snobs that were most likely too good to wave. And yes I would have waved and honked as I went by.....
....but I have also stopped when needed.

I think the whole waving thing is over rated anyway. It can get down right annoying sometimes. And in the harley riders corner. I'v had many a complement from harley riders about me ole triumph. Most of the older guys at some point in time have owned the odd triumph, bsa, norton, etc. And generally have fond memories. Minus Mr. lucas.

Over here you get a creak in your neck through all the nodding you do to other bikers, regardless of what they are riding. Except mopeds!!! *spit*

I pretty much agree with you except I rarely waive unless I know the person. I knock Hardleys in a good natured fasion. Most of it I don't really mean. 99% of my friends ride HD and the bashing goes both ways but under that we like each others bikes and are good friends.

Sorry to hear that Ian. Good thing Dewars didn't wave or nod to you huh. We would then be talking about rude, self absorbed, Triumph posers.

Im new to riding and I started out waving to everyone on 2 wheels. But then I went riding with Ian upstate PA, and I stopped waving as much as possible. His whole area is one giant motorcycle circus compared to where i live. Everyones waving and waving and waving....screw all that Im trying to keep up with Ian doing 65 around mountain curves and roaming bobcats..haha
The funny part is that Ian waves to every single cemetary on the side of the road...when i asked him why he said "somebodys got to"..ahah

I don't really care Tom. Just making a point. They (the Harley guys) didn't wave for the same reason. Later, a small dog with a broken leg ran into the high grass on the side of the road. They were looking for it get it help.
The above assumption has as much validity as the first assumption about costume malfunctions and rude behavior.

Well I wasnt exactly responding to whatever point you were trying to make, just adding to the thread conversation about not waving. Didnt know this was a certified presidential thread for the elite. Ill try harder to stay on the subjects "youre" talking about next time.
All in all, I think its the guy inside who isnt waving, not the brand of motorcycle.

Well Tom the cemetary thing actually started one Memorial day and I just kept doing it. Maybe one day someone will wave to my grave , who knows just nice to be remembered.
I don't get the wave to every single bike that goes by thing. Following that thinking I should wave to everyone else who drives a truck or lawn mower or owns a house. If I know them I wave if I don't then probably not although I do here and there. If I see someone broken down I will stop to help.

The motorcycle wave is weird compared to other things, but it is cool to have a unity like that. Around my way theres a handfull of bike scattered here or there, so waving is no big deal...but then some days theres just way too many bikes on the road and it gets annoying.
Getting left hanging really sucks too..haha

Where I live, HD folks are probably the most outgoing of all on the road. They are also unanimous in their approval of Triumph. The only folks who usually don't acknowledge other bikes are the sport bikers.
Said Molly to James, that's a fine motorbike.

Ive rarely been snubbed by anyone on a wave. Usually they dont see...and I have been guilty of paying close attention to the cager in front of me and missed a wave. My best bashing story was shortly after I got the bike. I was waiting at the ferry terminal and a couple HDs showed up. One guy gets on his cell and walks off...the other guy starts circling my bike. Then strikes up the conversation...ill keep it short but plenty of compliments and then the comment "I woudlnt know it was a Triumph, its not leaking oil". I laughed and said we could say the same for your bike. Then we both laughed. A few minutes later the Goldwing guy showed up...lots o compliments on the Triumph but holly cow how the HD and GW guys went at each other. All the bashing was in good fun and the guy on the cell rode like a jerk once we got to the other side.
No point really...this thread reminded me of that story.

I am not picking at you Tom. I am picking at the very first post, with lots of assumption about a brand and those who ride them. I like all bikers and feel uneasy around all brand bigots. This thread would never have existed if they were Suzuki riders IMHO. Quote:

Just about the only bikes I ride with or around when riding are Harleys. I almost never see another Triumph. I get nothing but positive comments from all the Harley people I meet. The only ribbing I get is from my close friends - all in fun.

You have to be free to have a sense of humour, when i had a virago every biker asked how i was doing now i was on VIAGRA, i nearly bought a H-D and probably would have been happy, BUT BUT i was very fortunate that i test drove an america and that was it, never looked back. One of best buds has a heritage softail (and if i could afford it i would have one also, along with my tba) and i rib him something awful and he ribs me (poor mans harley and that sort of stuff) continualy, and i attend 'hoggin the bridge' which is attended by all bikers, it is a harley organised event and everybody takes the p1$$ out each other, we all take it in the spirit its meant. Thank god we have a sense of humour, if you can't laugh at YOURSELF don't laugh at others and i chuckle every day i get up and look in the mirror. So smile on, and i think H-D then TRIUMPH has the biggest brand loyalty on the planet thats why everybody knocks us, even ourselve's. wayne

One bike I will bash. While in Panama a buddy of mine came back to the barracks and told me he had bought an Indian. I looked out the window and said it ain't no Indian. We went out and after a lot of searching found a plate that identified it as a Jawa, made in Checklosvakia. That thing was nothing but problems and a piece of trash. He ended up trading for a 55cc Honda.
Yes! I am a Redneck. Any Problems?

Tryed talking to a couple of guys at a tire shop in town when I put the first new tire on my Speedmaster. This was back in 05. They were riding new Goldwings. One was one of the bosses at the tire shop. They would not say much, kinda acted stuckup.Felt like I was looked down on.I know everybody has bad days, but these guys acted like as-hol-s! Needless to say I save my money and change my own tires now.Saves me wasting a day in town and saves me a 45 mile trip one way. They are usually nice people working there. So maybe one day I'll go back. They did not get rich off of me there, but I have had several tires done there over the years.Oh and I did own a beater Goldwing years ago, unfortunately.

I am working on a hinged hydraulic mannaquin arm that mounts on the left side of the bike about mid-ship . A switch on the controls will activate a 90 degree arc to hail approaching bikes . It will have tattoos and no-finger gloves , maybe a watch ,the possibilities are endless . Patent pending . Brent can sell them . That is all I have to say about that .

That's great! You know you can make a different mount and market them for wave-happy Jeepers too!
