My current policy is up for renewal on Thursday ( I like to leave it to the last minute) so I have spent the last hour calling for quotes (my renewal premium has gone up 40% despite no claims being made - must be paying for all those un-insured drivers)

I saw an advert in BSH for these people The advert said

" All cruise & custom bikes covered including:

Heavily customised & non standard bikes
All Modifications
Turbo chargers & NOx kits "

Got to be worth a try I thought so gave them a call!

When I got the the "any modifications?" question, I said that I had TOR's fitted, and was told that they would invalidate any insurance if I made a claim while they were on the bike.

I then pointed out the advert about Turbos & NOx and was told that they only pay a claim if they were not being used at the time of an accident!!

Why do these people bother advertising in custom bike mags if they won't even cover something as common as off road pipes??

I have a few more calls to make tomorrow but would appreciate any tips about people who will offer cover for TOR's

Rant over as the meds have kicked in!

Shaun

If you added pipes I don't think that would qualify as a customize performance enhancement like Turbos or NOx.

Sounds like a serious case of "False Advertising" to me.

My insurance cost me £108, fully comp with pillion. Through Bennetts.

Strange though... 3rd party was more expensive.

My insurance is around £440....for 2 Americas and a 125 Cruiser. Fully Comp and unlimited mileage. And I told them about the mods and everything.

Try Motorcycle Direct.

Gina 03 America - Pretty stock - except the TBS wheel... 06 America - missing, presumed in bits. With it's TBS wheel... 09 America - It's very blue....

Thats who my current insurance is with - they quoted £174 for the coming year (£123 last year)

Have also got quotes from Bennetts (£145) and Hastings (£114) both with excesses of around £200

Tried Carole Nash (allegedly the biggest broker) and the best they could do was £250 with an excess of ..........

Wait for it.................

£450.00!!!

Mines Equity Red Star too, just through MCD.

Call them back and say you had a quote of 135 and see what they say...

Swinton 01933 442445
44 High Street, Wellingborough, NN8 4HL

mine Highway Insurance about 120 £ full comp but I don't think that TOR's are modification ......should tell them about different suspension and wheel ??

I use Swinton as a broker, and have mine insured with Norwich Union £91.58 fully comp, full no claims, £175 excess. Used to be with Bennetts, last quote I had from them was over £170, and £300 excess. Obviously sponsering too many things, like Carole Nash.

Funny I never bother swopping around, but informed Motorcycle Direct (Equity Red Star that I had sold the Suzi 500 and replaced it with a Honda 750 and they said they owed me £2.00,mind you never mention about having the TOR's on, but surely they do not make that much difference, the only difference I seem to notice is the noise a little but I am going slightly death.

Shop round Shaun I think mine is £180 FC with 750 Honda on as well, £200 ex on both bikes though.

Okay

I finally went with e-bike which fortunately gives a donation to MAG for every policy .

Managed to pick out about 6 items from their list of mods, and they still came in cheapest of the lot at £106.00.

Lets just hope that I don't need to claim at all!

Thanks for all your imput.

Shaun

TORs are Triumph accessories and should make no difference on insurability. It's like putting on a sissy bar and rack.
I would think.
