If you're riding around the lake, north-to-south, and you have to pick a side, which is the better side to ride on, the east side or west side? I'm curious about scenic qualities vs. twistiness.

FJ as long as the construction on the west side is completed, it is the more scenic side. A lot more turnouts and scenic overlooks, so lots of lookyloos. The west side has no gas stations either, until you get to South Lake Tahoe. The east side moves along at a faster pace, less twisties, and is scenic too. Check the CalTrans site and they should let you know if the road is clear of construction. Habuba and I will see you Tuesday. AmyLee

Why is there a question about it?

I was still spelling correctly with out having to look twice, so with out being 100% sure I figure its safer to question it.

Well there's no time like the present to solve that sobriety problem you may be having.

Lake Tahoe?
CIRCLES! Lots and lots of circles, both directions with lots of stops at several places.
My bride and I spent a week there in the mid seventies. We returned 20 years later and realized how much we missed the first time by spending that aforementioned week in the room and the smorgasbord at Harrah's. Be careful of course, but enjoy some gorgeous countryside.

The western side would be my first choice just to bypass the more commercialized gaming industry zones. On the other hand, if you want to try your luck, best to stay on the east bank.

i have a condo at tahoe. other than down town tahoe there is no such place as a bad place to ride. some of the most beautiful scenery on the planet. ride a couple hrs south of there you will get to the national park and the red woods. it's a as close to heaven on earth for motor cycles you can get. you'l have a hard time finding the forest for the trees. have a good time...
