I'm do for new tires at the end of this riding season and was wondering what tires other riders use? I've seen alot of posts about Metzler's. Are these really the best or are there other opinions? I'm more concerned about wear than handling although I do want decent handling tires. Thanks for any advice. jtspeedmaster

Avon Venoms are very popular. I'm on about my 5th set.

The Metzler ME880 Marathon was originally developed for Gold Wings.
Considering a Speedmaster is 400lbs less, they give pretty good mileage. And never a problem with handling.

my 880 lasted a long time I changed it about 12 or 13 thousand miles. My new tire is IRC Wild Flame cost about $100 and holds the road very well and seems to be wearing well. Has 2 or 3 thousand on it now. I don't notice any difference from my old Metz.Only time will tell on the wear factor.

I just put on Mettzler ME880s replacing the old stock tires afer everything that I read here. So far they are great!!! Highly recommend. You will not believe the difference better/new tires will make to the ride. I was slightly concerned when I first jumped on the bike after mounting the tires since there was a little bit of a vibration I wasn't used to coming through the bike, but soon I realized that that was the feeling of tires with tread!

I only noticed the vibration after I increased the tire pressure from Triumph manual 29-32 lb Front and 30-36 lbs rear to the Metzler's 37 lbs front (Lasertech) and can only handle 38 lbs rear, (Marathon) site notes 48 lbs. I did not even think about the option of wider tires for front and rear. I believe TBA can go one tire size bigger without worrying about clearance issues. But the ride is so much better, I can now actually push the handle bars into a corner and TBA goes where I point it. Not like with the Brigestone not holding the corners and in the rain there is no comparison.

I agree but I am beginning to think the IRC is a better value. I'll let you know when I hit about 25,000 miles if the IRC is still on there.
