For my small part, thank you. As crazy as the world and the country is right now, your thanks remind me why I do what I do.

And I sincerely appreciate what you do for our fallen, and their families.

Thank you! It is an honor to be in our military, and an honor to serve the people of the US. And I hold up the Triumph badge in Germany...at least when its not raining (2 days outta the year)!

Well, don't really consider myself a "veteren"...I was active duty Army from 1981 to 1987...sorta "used" the military for my education that my family could'nt afford. Never seen any "action"....Had it not been for the Army, would not be as blessed as I am today....

SSGRex: It's truly my HONOR to stand for our Heroes.
Beamer:I hope you can keep making those 40 miles interesting.
Onegonekat: I spent four years In Schweinfurt, where are you?
B717doc: You volunteered to stand for us which is a lot more than I can say for a lot of our fellow countrymen. Don't sell yourself short.

Like Mac says, "Don't sell yourself short". The vast majority of our armed forces never see "action". I was Air Force from 1967 till 1971, when Vietnam was going hot and heavy. I never left the states. But regardless of what we did while in the military, we did what they needed us to do. Those that were actually in combat still needed the rest of us for support, logistics, supply, etc. It took all of us to do the job. Even though I never saw action, I still feel proud that I did my part. I am a veteran just as you are. So I, for one, thank you for what you did, and I thank Mac for this post.

IN HONOR OF ALL OF YOU
Palmetto Silver

Listen for the rumble, listen for the roar
They ride for all that's good and true, cross-country shore to shore
Through the rain, the cold, the heat, it matters not how hard
They ride for honor, for respect; they are the Patriot Guard.

Years ago a war was fought, the vets were scorned and honored not
Now a new fight rages on and once again the land is fraught
With those who would deride and taunt those soldiers noble and true.
They mock the cause, they mock our land, they mock the red, white and blue

Riders heard, said "Never again. We'll stand and silence this sound
Of those who bring disrespect to solemn, sacred, blood-stained ground"
They gathered flags and on bikes they rode to quell the evil chant
In honor could the families grieve; rumbling engines drowned the rant.

Listen for the rumble, listen for the roar
They ride for all that's good and true, cross-country shore to shore
Through the rain, the cold, the heat, it matters not how hard
They ride for honor, for respect; they are the Patriot Guard.

In every state across the land one can hear of this brave group
Some are past soldiers, others not, but they are a blood sworn troop.
To honor, respect those who serve with an honor mission ride
No fame desired, they lay low, the Soldiers their one source of pride.

Listen for the rumble, listen for the roar
They ride for all that's good and true, cross country shore to shore
Through the rain, the cold, the heat, it matters not how hard
They ride for honor, for respect; they are the Patriot Guard.

On bikes, in cars and trucks full bore they come with one cause in mind
To honor a soldier for service true, and in that call they find
Freedom's light is shining still oer all this vast America land.
God bless you all as you serve so well......The Patriot Guard band.

Mac,

Gruss Gott! My unit is stationed an hour and a half from Schweinfurt in Ansbach, Bavaria. If I told you my current location I might violate our OPSEC but...if I remember correctly, Schweinfurt, although in Bavaria, are proud Franconians, whereas Ansbachers are proud Bavarians so I'll make sure not to tell any of my neighbors this conversation.

All,
As for the "Veteran" status I must add my 2 euro cents (they're worth more!):

If you served your country, you are a Veteran! They're is only two types of service...preparing for war, or in it. Either way you are serving this country and the people of it. Whether you're Infantry or Human Resource, Airborne or Air Assault, SEAL or Chaplain , Front Line or Rear D, Marine or Air Force,Vietnam or OEF, 4 years or 20, you are my brother...a Veteran. If you've already been "in" may God Bless you for your service, if you're still serving may He bless you on the trail.

Pro Deo et Patria!

some JERK (I wanna use better adjectives but this site won't let me) was going down the road in this big boat, like an early 70s Caprice or something similar but he was flying an American flag unside down! I wanted to start shooting but I was busy riding my bike at the time. Scum like that makes my blood boil. Wendy and I couldn't get that trator out of our minds the rest of the day. It was a big flag too like maybe 2' X 3'. If this country is so bad LEAVE I'll even help! 'Course the idiot isn't gonna like the way I help!

gonekat,
Gruss Gott ( I couldn't figure out how to spell it right w/ our computers) which definitely is a Bavarian term, but it was used quite a bit around Schweinfurt( I was told we were considered Bavarian). Understand the OPSEC concerns
as I recall you must be having a rainy year, I believe we had around 15 days w/o rain while I was there

Anway, would love to see some pics of that Triumph anywhere you might get to while you're there. I wish I had any of my bikes with me while I was there. Tschuss

Well I was stationed in France from 58-60 protecting them from the Russians. Fat thanks we got for that. Then I got called up again in 62 for the Cuban missile crisis when JFK got nervous.

Yes, you are a veteran Mark. I was at Ft. Benning, Ga. for 3 years and never left the states. We are veterans and served our country just like every one else who has put on the uniform. I was a Sgt. at the Airbrone Training school. I give a special salute and prayer for the families who have lost loved ones and those who have actually been wounded or died for this country.

I agree 100% with PES. Anyone who put on the uniform deserves the same respect as they took as big a chance as anyone else that did the same. Just because you weren't called doesn't mean you couldn't have been. Thats pert of what burned me up about the flag being flown upside down even though soldiers fought for their right to do so it is still disrespectful!

I agree DOG. I don't handle people disrespecting the flag, very well. I even take the one hanging above my garage down if it rains. You see some people just hanging it until it wears out. Too many people have given their lives for what the flag stands for. I know our brothers and sisters in other countries feel the same way about their flag.

as a reminder, we have a thread in Rides and Rallies
specifically dedicated to the PGR.
please post in there if you know of a ride
going on in your area. paste the link to the
thread in the official site and keep us updated.
if more people who know of an honour ride going
on in their area it will help add flags to line.

Dog & PES,, y'all are right. That's the thing that gets under my skin the worst on a daily basis. You ride around and see people flying the flag, but some don't display it properly, some need to replace them and some, like that A$$HOLE you saw Dog, are beligerantly disrepecting it. One time I had to tell the Post Master that it was raining and the flag was still flying, he said "oh I forgot about it"

My brother served in Korea then got called back on the missle crises-lost his house, his job, etc. Two months later the army said, "Sorry! We shouldn't have called you up after all. You can go now."

It did turn out okay in the end for him.

Well they got me for 11 months on the callup. It was obvious after about 4 weeks that it was all bluff and bluster. It really did hurt a lot of guy with mortgages, small business owners, wage earners for the family, etc. Lucky for me it just added one more year of college.

Mark -

I was in from 78-88. At no time did I know of anyone having a six-year enlistment. Either you (1) Forgot to go home in 1984 or 1985 (stupid), (2) Were in confinement and didn't get out until 1987 (even more stupid), or (3) Re-up'd (knowing what you were in for, either extremely stupid, or very honorable and dedicated)

I don't think you're stupid. Thanks from one Vet to another.

Geez, Mac, I hope you didn't say that they were Bavarians around Schweinfurt!! That kind of crazy talk will get ya shot ya know!! They're Franks, and technically Franken IS part of Bavaria according to every map printed, but being a bit hard headed and proud of heritage and all, they will loudly protest that they are Frankish, NOT Bavarian!! Of course, I take EVERY opportunity to tell my friends in that part of BAVARIA, that the capital of Franken is in MUNICH (the capital of BAVARIA) Always makes for good fun around a Mass of Bier!! And for info, to type up Grüß Gott,
just hold the Alt key and punch 129 on the number keypad for the ü, and Alt and 225 for the S-Zett (ß) or fancy double s...
Tschüß!

The flag is not required to be taken in in inclement weather if it is an all weather flag, which most government flags are.

Bayern,
Thank you much sir. Its been a long time since I was over there ('90 - '94) anyway the terms were used quite a bit, and being young and in their country, I tried to use as much of their terms as I could. I had a blast, and generally got along well with most. Apparently I didn't upset them too much, or they were having fun laughing at me when I thought they were laughing with me.
Thank you also for the 'puter info, I'm no smarter with this than I was with German.

Thanks to all of you for your service. U.S. Navel Reserve 1959-1960, U.S. Navy 1960-1971. Any of you folks serve on the USS Blue DD 744, USS Weiss APD 135, USS Black DD 666, or the USS Rogers DD 876. We did a little shooting over in Viet Nam three times. I also had the privilege shooting with HMAS Perth. Those Aussies are gutsy folks.
