I just heard. They are going to remake The Day the Earth Stood Still!!

They just can't do that.....

It is the Sci-Fi holly grail!!

Worse still, Keanu Reeves is starring in it.

What's next Doctor Strangeglove with Jim Carry????

Yep! I kind'a agree with ya, Wendell. It'll be hard to top Robert Wise's 1951 Sci-Fi classic, alright!

BUT...I hope you realize why they're doin' this don't cha???

Yep! the original was in B&W....and you know how those yutes out there today just can't seem to wrap their little minds around somethin' they watch unless it brought to them in vivid technicolor, no matter who well done the movie is.

("Citizen Kane?! That's in B&W ain't it, old dude???")

So, I suppose you just better get used to the idea that who ever plays the Patricia Neal character in this remake, in order to save the would from Gort, will be saying in this new TECHNICOLOR "masterpiece"...(get this! )..."KEANU barada nikto"!!!!

(BTW...unless Mr.Carrey would be playing some kind of deranged proctologist in your supposition there, I THINK you meant "Dr. StrangeLOVE"...NOT "StrangeGLOVE there, Dude!)

"Klaatu Barada....NICKEL"???!!!

Don't forget Ash, that movie was make in 1951. Adjusting for inflation, it would now be, "Klaatu Barada..A buck and a half", wouldn't it?!

To me some of those old movies are better because they are B&W. You can't get that cold gloomy feel with the proper shadows in color. That won't matter for The Day the Earth Stood Still. But take Frankenstein, There have been several really good remakes but Boris is still THE Frankenstein, well him and Peter Boyle! Just like the origonal Dark Shadows with its cheesy sets and all was much better than the fancy remake they tryed.

Conwy, I think he will indeed ride in on a new 1500 and Klaatu will have a Jaffe in each hand riding b!tch.

(I don't believe the following will violate the A.U.P.s here, but ya never know.....)

You guys do realize that "The Day The Earth Stood Still" is really a Sci-Fi or secular version of the story of Jesus Christ, don't ya?!

Michael Rennie's Klaatu comes from the sky, adopts the name of "Mr.Carpenter", tries to help humanity learn to love one another or at least get along, dies and is resurrected.

And to add to this, they are remaking The invasion of the body snatchers--for a 3rd time. Sadly, they think they are paying homage to these classics. Thanks to AMC & TCM I've no need to visit the movieplexes. Long live black & white!!!

Just a cheap way for an industry that ran out of ideas 20 years ago to make a buck.

Hire a couple hacks to "Modenize" the dialog, computer generated specail effects.

Star one of the current pretty boys and the teenie boppers will flock to it.

Me I'm waiting for the remake of "Plan 9 From Outerspace"

Also heard they where gonna redo "Mary Poppins" with Paris Hilton in the lead

Hollywood has about 50 stories that they tell over and over.

They think they are SO much better with special effects. I remember laying on the floor listening to 'Gangbusters' on the radio and it was much better becuase I imagined so much much of it.

Of course when we got our first 13" TV we rushed home from school to watch the test pattern. Okay, we were simple...

OOPS! Already too late Gordie!!!

Production has already stated just outside of Rome on "The Bad, The Worse And The Worst[Buggy Drivers]", starring Paris, Nicole and Lindsay!

(or was that "A Fist-Full Of No-Talents"...I can't remember for sure)

A remake of what may be the most thought-provoking movie of the talkie era is indeed a sin.

Now that would be good. But who would play Gen. 'Buck' Turgidson (George C. Scott) or Slim Pickens' part (the pilot)?

To answer your question here Soren.......

In the George C. Scott part of Gen. 'Buck' Turgidson....Friar John

In the Sterling Hayden part of Gen. Jack D. Ripper......Kevin

In the Slim Pickens part of the B-52 Left-Seat Pilot/Bronco Buster Maj. T.J. "King" Kong......now THIS one was TOUGH what with all the possible picks around here, but I'm goin' with....drum roll please......Larry Disney! The deciding factor here was that Larry already knows how to fly airplanes!!!(now there's a cost savings for the producers of this thing right there, Bro!!!)

and...

in the Peter Sellers' partS of Group Capt. Lionel Mandrake/President Merkin Muffley/Dr. Strangelove........ME!!!!(forget that Carrey guy)

Now mind you I'd have to work on Capt. Mandrake's british accent a bit though. Sometimes it sounds a little too Australian to some people, and Mandrake was strictly an upper class Londoner ya know.

BUT as you ALSO KNOW...I can play crazy REALLY REALLY WELL for the Dr. Strangelove part!!!(though some might call this a clear case of typecasting)

And I'd also be taking on playing the President part too, of course, just like Mr. Sellers did? But Hey, I say...Piece o' cake, Bro!

Heck! It appears ANYBODY can do THAT nowdays!!!

So...how much harder could taking on that ADDITIONAL role be here anyway, HUH???!!!

(See ya in the movies, Dude!!!)

Can't agree with you here GB. I think the remake of "War of the Worlds" was much better than the orig. because of the advances in special effects. For this reason I can't wait to see the new "The Day the Earth Stood Still"

Keanu Reeves can only appear in movies where the special effects cover his a$$ - he has as much on screen presence as the 4x2 holding up the scenery.

I'm with Celt, keep your hands off the spaghetti westerns.
Just a thought, but why do all cowboy movies have guys talking with modern American accents (apart from that guy on Little House on The Prairie - he wasn't a cowboy so he doesn't count!) - surely there would be a whole mix of accents : mainland Europe, English, Irish etc or have I been hit with the stupid stick again??

Actually Kenny, While I think the Spielberg version was pretty good(except for that kid playin' the lead in it ) I always thought the original 1953 version's FX and designs for the aliens spacecraft still hold up to this day.

It's kind of like the original "King Kong". Even though it was made in 1933, that movie still amazes.

I agree I really liked the new War of the Worlds but I don't think it improved on the origonal. I take them as 2 different movies and like both. Like above like King Kong ( some really bad ones made of that movie) Mighty Joe Young is another. Lets hope no one ever ruins Bubba Ho Tep! Or Shawn of the Dead.

A few European accecents appear in Westerns, Remember Blazing Saddles? Lilly Von Shtup?

Plus Cowboy movies for the most part were not exactly historically accurate.

I also liked the remake of War of the Worlds, with the only negative being a personal dislike for the actor in the lead role. Choosing Morgan Freeman as the narrator's voice was a good move however...

Echoance, I assume you are referring to "Army of Darkness". Those words were Sam Raimi's homage to one of his all time favorite movies... you guessed it "The Day the Earth Stood Still"

to expalin more the line was used in much the same way in both movies.

In the day the earth stood still it was the phrase that would stop Gort from destorying the world.

I wonder if in the remake of "the day the earth stood still" they will change the line, so that the yutes who have never seen the original wont think they stole it from "Army of Darkness"

Yep, Jack. I'm thinkin' the phrase in the updated movie will probably be somethin' along the lines of..."Yohomie Gortus, eaceout-pay ude-day!"
