A motorcyclist died after he flipped over the Ben Franklin Bridge after rear-ending a vehicle early Monday morning. Police said the initial impact of the crash sent the cyclist flying off the bike and over the bridge at about 12:45 a.m.
They recovered his body underneath the bridge near Race Street and Delaware Avenue, but were still investigating and have not released the victim?s identity yet.
Two lanes of the bridge were closed for about two hours while detectives dealt with the crash
This is the bridge that I cross everyday from jersey to philly for work. I never had that much interest in riding my bike to work..this practically seals the deal..ahha
A month or 2 ago a kid committed suicide jumping off this thing. Pretty nuts

Oh Im sure it was. The bridge has suspension cables coming down, so he mustve shot right through them somehow. Its a pretty tall brige too, I cant imagine what that mustve felt like on the way down.

Could have been dead or unconcious when he went over the edge if he hit hard enough to fly over the edge of the bridge.

Thats it now they have to enact a law limiting how fast the a bike can go wide open. They need to pass a law that cycles can no longer be produced that can physically exceed the speedlimit and can not legally be modified to do so.

as much as i dont agree with it, i still wonder why theyre aloud to make bikes that can do like 130mph off the showroom floor. Its a little excessive
Still you can fly off a bridge like that doing 30mph

We had a guy go off an overpass several months ago in the wee hours of the morning. It was at a "Y" in the freeway and his bike continued several hundred feet down the freeway rubbing up against the barrier. When they finally found his body they discovered he had a coronary and highsided off his Harley.

had high speed into a rock face here not long ago. The road comes to a T inersection with a rock face straight across this guy never even hit the breaks.

All kidding aside, Tom, the wife and I drove over that very bridge last month when we were back there for her family reunion in Cinnamon NJ. And, at the time I remember thinking that the road surface on it was something I woundn't care to be riding a motorcycle on. But I doubt that this had much bearing on this sad story.
Speakin' of bearing and "Bair"(Tom's surname, folks)...you wouldn't happen to have a sister named Deborah, who the last time I heard was living in Seattle, would ya? Man, did I have the hots for her back in high school, here in the L.A. area!

yeah that bridge is rediculous, ive never crossed it yet on my bike, but i wouldnt want to either...i barely like driving next to the people in my truck during rush hour. and on both sides of the bridge as soon as you get off you have to do this crazy s-curve and find your lane right away before it splits up into 5 different routes.
Its like they built the city, then the bridge, and figured maybe 1 or 2 people would walk over it along with a handful of model t's or something...haha
Actually I have an AUNT debbie, remember im only 25..haha, but she grew up in jersey.

Not to highjack your thread but, this will fit nicely here. I am in Pensacola and we have had no less than 2 and I think maybe one more yet do somewhat the same thing. We have overpasses here downtown that for some reason crotch-rocket have a heck of a time with this one particular bridge?! The riders have been thrown off the overpass, about 60' to the deck below and they manage to live!!!! Go figure! They seems to land on the only patch of grass within 100 yards. The patch of grass is only about 6'x6'. WOW! Anyway, just thought I would drop this in here.

There was a fatal bike crash in CT Aug 18th, Guy on a crotch rocket came around a blind turn, and rear ended
a pickup truck pulling a trailer,truck was trying to make a left hand turn. So the truck was at about a dead stop.
The odd thing about the news report was they said "The rider was wearing a helmet". This is odd because most times they only mention helmets if the rider WAS NOT wearing one.

Yep! Jack's right! I see so any 17 year olds out there who want their FIRST bike to be a 750 or 1000 Gixxer(or a Fatboy) so badly that they'll beg, borrow or steal for the money to get it!
Now THERE'S a "smart purchase"!
(heck, any first motorcycle for a newbie which has over 50BHP is too much motorcycle for them, in MY book....but, most people, and especially kids, don't listen to reason much anymore, do they?!)

Only difference a helmet would have made in that crash is instead of mush his head would have been bouncing down the road like a volleyball

I think I recall getting right off to the wrong foot with the guy a while back when the two of us first met about this VERY topic!!! Yeah! I'm RIGHT! Last summer in Charleston a kid on a go-faster went over the side of the James Island Connector (and that baby is tall) and luckily landed in the pluff mud below and survived.

(and you should know by now that my sense of wanting to get the last word in around here negates ANY possible discretion that I may be able to muster when somebody takes these caravans onto the "wrong offramp of these particular roads" around here!!!)
