Well, went on the 2nd annual Banker's on Bikes Charity Ride. All started off well. Left Edmonton on time, picked up riders in Red Deer and Cochrane. There was about 30 of us in total. Made our way via Hwy 22 and Nanton turnoff to Lethbridge. Had a few 'pops' Friday night and looked forward to the Saturday ride to 'Highway to the Sun' in Glacier Nat'l Park. Made it up and down without incident. We stopped in East Glacier for a quick fuel stop for both bikes and riders. Headed out the long way around.. for a quicker pace.. we were going just about to Browing Montana when the 'missadventure' happened. The rider 2 ahead of me hit the brakes hard as she came up on the left turn with her hubby now having to do the same as he was too close to her and I too close to him (now seeeing that in hindsight). I remember seeing his front wheel getting VERY close to the shoulder of the road and I thought that if I was able to pull hard left maybe.. just maybe I would be able to avoid hitting him and wrecking us both. I don't remember the next second or two, but am told that I locked my brakes and went into skid and put my left leg down. What I do remember is skidding and then rolling across the highway and into the ditch (which is when my bike.. obviously looking for my touch promply landed on top of me). I was wearing heavy jeans, gloves and helmut (my nice riding jacket was neatly tucked away for safe keeping as it was to warm to wear it) . Ambulance from Browning came and collected me and took me to the little hospital there. Very nice EMT's and Doctors. What they discovered is that I broke my fib & tib just above my ankle and shattered the tib just below my knee on my left leg. As well, I have 2 small puncture wounds on my right leg along with some nasty road rash. Right arm by elbow got some good road rash and my left arm required many stitches as I had a nasty gash about 5in long down to the bone. One huge bruise on my left hip and butt area which makes sitting down interesting for the most part.

All in all I think I survived well. Doc's say no weight on the leg for 6-8 weeks and off work 12-14 weeks (I'm gonna go nuts)

Not quite sure how the bike is, it's still in Montana. I'm working on bringing it back up next week to Canada. Insurance gal said from my description, I will be just getting a check from them.

What I know is wrong with the bike
1. Dented Tank
2. All lights missing
3. Rear seat ripped off
4. Back rest ripped off
5. Saddle bags and mounts ripped off
6. Buggered front fender
7. seriously bent rear fender
8. some small scarring on engine

I will post pics of both myself and the bike when available (I have my xray pics but they won't load up)

A guy just has to laugh about it, not much else to do now.

Too bad my riding season was cut short

Wow...sucks!!! Sorry to hear of your injuries. Glad you made it through. Hope you heal well and get back to riding again. You seem to be in good spirits.

I have seen first hand the dangers of riding in groups. The few bikes accidents I have responded to that did not involve a cage were always a group. Someone is either showing off (usually sporty's) or inexperienced or riding too close.

Sucks being trapped at home. I have been on the injured list too many times myself, once for a year though never from my bikes (as I knock on wood)! Start ordering some mag subscriptions to help you through the really boring times. Got any friends with a side car? Good Luck!

Glad you're still with us.
You DO seem upbeat about it - possibly the meds?
I usually ride alone but lucky for me, the friends I do ride with, I trust implicitly - always helps!

Wishing you a speedy recovery too.

Sorry to hear of yopur misfortune, At least you are generally OK and what is wrong should mend. That lower fracture is a nasy one though. Ankle breaks heal slowly. Sounds like its a custom project on the bike. Here's to a speedy recovery I would say and to a recovering speedy but its an America. good luck with that too.

Sorry to hear your misadventure Trevor, like everyone says time and a little/lot of money will put both things right,

All you have to think about now is mending those bones then set to the bike, speedy recovery.

Get well soon, Trev. Don't sweat the season too much - just be glad you're relatively okay. Hang in there and get better - you can ride next year.

Trevor, Trevor, Trevor. Do I have to make the obvious joke from that statement?

What are we gonna do with you? I'm glad they took good care of you up there in Browning. Let us know how this all shakes out with your recovery and your poor, poor bike.

Sorry to hear it. The important part is that you're still around to tell the tale.
Take care, get well and there's always next year.

Glad to hear you're still with us, and weren't hurt worse.
I no longer enjoy riding in large groups with people I don't
know. Makes me uncomfortable.

Take it easy!

Trevor,

If you want I could call the New Grande and let your Nelson friend know what happened?

Keep your spirits up, like FJ said, "What are we going to do with you?".

Group rides? That was one thing about the Georgia rally, Chy and Mert and Wojo and others briefed everyone on safety each morning. It was well run (). Spacing.......

Take Care, be safe. Oh, and next time you're in Glacier, let somebody know .

Sorry to hear of this, Trevor.

Hope ya mend up real fast!

How old are ya again, dude?

Oh! THAT old, huh?!

Well in THAT case, I hope they can mend your bike for ya a lot quicker than THAT, old man!

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Thanks for all the post guys. It is much appreciated.

Update:

Got the big ugly cast off yesterday when I went for my first follow up. Now I have a removable one that allows me to begin to regain some flexibility in my ankle. I see the nice scar. It's about 10in long right up the middle of my shin. A very tidy little line. Still have the stitches, they come out in a few weeks I suppose. All other stitches removed. Worst part is still got some road rash that's healing up very slowly on my right elbow (as I keep bending it and reopening it up).

All in all I'm on da mend!!!

Thanks againg guys

Trev
