Ok, this was dumb, but accidental. Anna and I wanted to go for a ride the other day, so I started the bike and rode it from the shop to the house, about 200 feet, and then let it run for a few minutes to get warmed up. Then I thought I would give it a quick wipe down to get a bit of dust off before we left. I shut the bike off and started to do my cleaning. I noticed some dust on the pipes, which were still hot, so I took the rag and swiped the pipe. Ooooops! What I didn't realize was the rag was not cotton, it was synthetic. It melted as soon as it touched the pipe. So now I have this brownish looking goo all over one pipe. I talked to a friend of mine who works at Slacks Auto Parts and he suggested heating the pipes up again and while they were hot wipe of as much goo as possible. Then let them cool off and start cleaning it off with carberator cleaner. Well, this is working, but extremely slow---like hours for one little spot. So, I now ask all you wise folks out there---have any of you done anything like this, and if so, can you give me some suggestions as to how to get this poo off my pipe. Please, oh please-----HELP !!!!

Some have had good results with EZ-OFF oven cleaner. I haven't tried it, and do not advocate its use.

Pawdiddle, try using Soleplate Cleaner for Rowenta Irons (yeah like for ironing your clothes!) Sounds crazy, but it's designed for cleaning the stainless "hotplate" of the iron. Run your bike for a couple minutes (NOT a lot, just 2-3 minutes) to get them good and warmed up, but not hot enough to burn you silly. Then put some of the Cleaner on the terrycloth rag (included along with a polishing cloth), and polish it off. I've used it on burnt on plastic before, works pretty well, and leaves a beautiful shine!! Do a Google search... You might also be able to find it locally at a Lowes in the appliances area if they sell irons, costs about $10.

EZ-Off got melted boot leather off my pipes that was on there when i bought it. Didn't even heat the bike up, but had to go over it about three times. Looks great now.

I had a man-made fibre m/c jacket full onto my hot pipes one day. Made a terrible mess. I got the pipes really hot when i got home and scrapped most of the goo of with a wooden popsickle stick, then rubbed for ever with Tutle Wax Chrome Cleaner. Came off a treat.
But some of the other suggestions here i think would save a lot of time, effort and elbow grease.

I hit a plastic bag that was a-blowin' across the highway and where did it land? On my pipes. Both of em. Rats. I heated the pipes up till the plastic was gooey, and then oh-so-carefully scraped most of it off with a razor blade. Used brake cleaner on the rest, took awhile but it came off. I'd try the oven cleaner if I had to do it over again.

I don’t know if you get this stuff over your side but as an end product when you have most of it off would return the pipes to new.

Did you use one of those yellow workshop rags from Costco...Karen did that to her bike...ON BOTH PIPES! Easy off was ok on that stuff...toxic as all ******! Wear a breather. COVER ALL PARTS OF ThE BIKE PAINTED BLACK!!!I got some on her motor when I was cleaning it and it is now discolored Dont heat the pipes up too much and youll need to scrape it off...I used cardbaord so as not to marr rwh chrome. I also used it on my bike to get the plastic off the pipes...I also had a bag hit em while riding.

Yup, it was one of those yellow rags. But I got mine at Wal-Mart. Oooooh, what a hard way to learn.
But thanks to you all for the suggestions. I will let you all know how it goes.
