MUMBAI (Thomson Financial) - Indian two-wheeler major Bajaj Auto Ltd is focusing on British motorcycle company Triumph Motorcycles Ltd as a possible takeover target, The Economic Times reported. The paper quoted unnamed sources as saying Bajaj Auto was earlier looking at Triumph and Italy-based Ducati Motor Holding SpA but has now decided to focus only on Triumph. Bajaj Auto managing director Rajiv Bajaj refused to comment, the paper said. According to the sources, Bajaj is looking to acquire a cult, top-end European brand to compliment its product line-up in India and position itself as a global player in the motorcycle market. The sources also told the paper that Ducati's high valuations and history of labour trouble could have tilted the scale in Triumph's favour. Web Site

yep, this has made its rounds...Ducati maybe ...look at the new Chinese / Benelli but Bloor bought Triumph not just out of business opportunism (a good thing) but also out of a sense of patriotism... to fly the flag so to speak.....don't see him ever selling out of country

How do you 'take over' a private company (with the given that the onwer does not want to sell)?
You don't.

Can't be done. Triumph is a privately owned company. No stocks on the market yet(I wish they would offer shares). Bloor would have to sell them the company and there's no-way I'm going to to buy a bike made in India(think ROYAL ENFIELD) without the quality control of the Hinkley factory......ANGELIS

This is a bunch a rubbish. They can't takeover a privately held company. They would have to approach Bloor with a boat load of money and even then I doubt he'd sell at this point.

No, I get the impression that Mr, Bloor is having way too much fun to ever sell out. Bloor should be knighted and that guy from India benighted.
By the way, why isn't Bloor on the list for the spellcheck?

They'd be of no help now, Money is the great equalizer.
Funny thing though I asked one of the Indians (Indian from India not native American)I work with what this company was known for in his home country, he said those flutes that snake charmers play.

If the takeover goes ahead (there's no sentiment in big business) imagine what that will do for the resale of our pre-Indian Triumphs.don't know about the States but over here in Australia we can buy new 500cc Royal Enfields built in India, and there a heap of s%#t. Say no more. Hoffo

Not sure but I think Royal Enfeild are still available in the US.
I wonder just how well an English named Indian owned built in Thailand motorcycle would do in the US market?

Well David, not that I'm defending "IN-JA"(isn't that how you "Commonwealthers" say that country's name? ), but I have a feeling that the reason those Royal Infield Bullets ARE a P.O.S. is that they're a 60 y/o design(or more), and they weren't any better when the fair of skin in Ol' Blighty were pumpin' 'em out.
That being said, I also certainly hope that Triumph stays put for the most part on that little island across The Pond.

Yeh Dwight I guess you are right in the respect that they are a 60yo design, the scarey bit is if IN-JA takes over Triumph will all the current models share the same fate. Hoffo

I agree, Dave. The ONLY reason Triumph has so far been the success story that it is, is because of John Bloor's very deep pockets. He had the money to see his enterprise get past being "in the red" and "into the black". No other attempted revived motorcycle company(such as Indian, Exc/Henderson or Norton) succeeded because of those lack of deep pockets.
And I don't see these investors from India having the long term financial commitment to continue this upward path that Mr.Bloor has taken Triumph these past almost 20 years or so.
