i figured an inch longer means more filtration.
matches up fine but when i used the sears jack to lift and adjust the chain, i put about an inch dent in the filter where the jack cross member sits.
on a good note, it didn't leak.
and btw, i installed a magnetic drain plug last oil change (500 miles ago) and there was a little grit left on the end.

Good tip you need to be careful for sure, even with the stock filters. Whenever I jack my bike (on the Sears lift) I always put the rearmost jack part directly under the part of the frame where it is all bolted together. It never hits the filter this way. I also use the PureOne filters, great filter and great price.

Having also concaved a filter or two with the home-made wooden center stand thing, I am extra careful too. If you look at the bike from the right side, u can see the filter easy and make sure your jack is aligned correctly.
By the way, Pep Boys jack is on sale again...

I said screw it and mounted a couple of 1"x2" soft pine on the jack arms with countersunk heads. That way I can catch the bike anywhere and not worry about crushing the filter.

Pat: Which Pure One filter are you using? I'm going that route on the next oil change. Thanks!

Cat: Thanks for the number, not sure why I never jotted it down previously. I'm due for an oil change in a month or so and will pick one up.

al, check this site out. this guy goes to painstaking lengths on these filters and there's an easy cross ref for all filters. there's a walmart brand that's close to the pure one for about 2 bucks. but for a few $ more, why not use the pure one. he rates them much better than the napa gold i was using. i have 2 kaws that i'll use the pure one for. they have the canister type. cat oil filter x ref

Wow, that looks like a good reference site. I use Bosch in my cars and the bike but will try the Pure One, if I can find it in my area.

I went to the Purolator web site and the number for the Triumph America is ML16819. I asked the folks at Pep Boys(our local auto parts place) about getting me some and they are special order at $12.50 each. Not much cheaper than the dealers.
