I have been gone for about a year and a half as I sold my very cool, personally customized, '02, BA complete with Weisco Big Bore and bought a....Harley! Yes, I know, traitor to brotherhood. Well, I quickly (less than a year) got that outta my system and sold the HD realizing I shoulda kept by Triumph. So, I back in the market for a nice America and had a question that I'm sure somone here will know: Are the California delivered bikes different than the 49 state versions? Seems I remember something about that. There's a pretty nice BA on Ebay in CA, but I don't want a de-tuned, smog-proofed one from CA if that is the case. Thanks All! H.P.

Just to be sure, don't buy it then!
Glad I could help.

I think the only difference is, is the evaporation system but I may be wrong.

Glad to see you back Roy and the advice of the evaporation system I believe is correct.

Well, there are no Cat-equipped bikes in the US, so that's one concern down. The California bikes do have the evap cannisters as others have mentioned, but that has nothing to do with performance, and the only other US-Market emissions equipment is the Air Injection, which is on all 50 states, and also has nothing to do with performance. It simply leans out the exhaust.

My '03 Speedy is a Cali model, all it had was the evap cannisters. Buy it. Don't let Californication stop you.

As far as I know, Roy, you can buy that California bike(and un-do your extremely boneheaded manuever ) with complete confidence, there Dude!

The only difference that CA sold Triumphs have(along with those, as you know NOW, vastly inferior H-Ds sold in the Golden State) is that "evaporative fuel cannister"(a black plastic device of about 6 inches long and about 4 inches in diameter) that "supposedly" will help the Arctic ice stick around for an extra .000005 milliseconds in the next 10,000 years!

As I said, there shouldn't be any performance liabilities with these CA bikes as compared to the 49-State Models.

(Pssst...don't tell anybody this...especially C.A.R.B.[that's the California Air Resources Board], but I'll jus' bet that puppy has ALREADY done been removed from that there Triumph y'all is thinkin' o' buyin' there Tex!!!)

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)
