I was about to go out yesterday for a Sunday ride with my wife. I had the bike on a Condor chock and wiped the chrome off. As I was opening the garage door with my back to the bike, I heard it fall over. Apparently, it had leaned a bit and with the narrow front wheel, it tipped over with the Condor. I freaked! The bike has never gotten a scratch or dent in over two years.

The wheels were in the air and the fall was broken by a tool bag and a couple of boxes. My wife helped me get it upright and I surveyed the damage. The left peg was broken off, but I couldn't find a scratch, ding, or any other damage of any kind. My windshield and headlight seemed to have moved a bit, but easily adjusted back. The small slant bag protected the turn lights and rear and appeared to be scuffed, but when I wiped it off - no marks. Boy, was I relieved.

I still wanted to go riding, but no peg. In 15 minutes I fabricated a replacement peg out of a cut piece of 1 1/4" PVC. I tapped it on the peg mount, drilled a hole through the end, and bolted it in place. I didn't want to ride around with a white PVC peg, so I wrapped it in some black cloth duct tape. We went riding and I couldn't even tell any difference.

I'll have a replacement peg in a couple of days, but at least I can be riding. Boy, do I feel lucky. Here's a pic of the temporary peg.

It's not your average guy that just happens to have some black gaff laying around. Very ingenious! And, not half bad looking either...

Ed, as a live sound engineer myself for the last 38 years, the gaff tape was in stock. The stroke of luck was finding some 1 1/4" PVC that perfectly fit over (with a little tapping help) the foot peg mount. I marked the position of the peg bolt holes and drilled a hole up from the bottom with the PVC on through both holes. A 3/8" bolt/nut held it in place.

There are really only two things that a tool box needs: gaff tape and WD-40. If it doesn't move and it should, use the WD-40. If it moves and it shouldn't, use the gaff.

Nicely done repair!

Had the same thing happen to me but my bike was on the lift. I thought I could leave it for a few seconds but it was below the holding notches and the lift slowly sank and then I heard the crash. Broke the peg, bent the driving light , and broke the break lever. That was durring the spring and has been fixed. Then last month I got rear ended but that's been fixed too. It's been a ruff year for the old gal!

Just don't try to stand on the pegs over a railroad crossing.

Great job of fixing it and glad it wasn't worse.

I laughed at an article in the latest MCN where it said if your bike is falling, maybe it's best not to to stop if from falling becuase you might pull something. That's like someone tossing you a small child and you NOT trying to catch it.

WD-40 saved my little project yesterday. without it i don't think i could have loosened the bolts that were holding the crash bar in place.
