Red or Black
The love is back. Why is it that in the five years ten months that I have owned Vera I have received in the past 12 days more ‘she’s beautiful’ when on the red head than I have ever received when on Vera cumulatively? I think that all yous saying red is faster actually are conveying the training that “Since everyone is saying what a beaut she is, YOU are believing what you are hearing.†Did you buy the red prefire for her color? Choice had you? Then click on to the next thread, this thread doesn’t concern you. However, those that bought her because she was it meaning she was the only color available (two choices Red or Black remember) have been soothed into believing her beauty transcends her looks. Really. Beauty is more than skin deep.
For the red ones. Skin deep beauty is transcendental. Let’s talk about it. Having red between your legs is noticeable. Your peripheral vision sees her. You are on a sickle. With black however, no way man. She literally disappears under your stance and you are on the wind alone. Falling in love v riding a wave of passion. Which was it for you? Did you learn to love her or did love her at first sight? I want to know. This parlance tween red and black has psychological roots embedded in your early years. Puritan v hedonistic.
Vera is my sickle. Red is a nubile nymphet that command attention. She has no guts, but she has the looks….

hmmm what to say to this? Imagine my smirk of satisfaction as I write. Did I choose red based on the fact that I didn't get another choice? No. Did I choose red over black because I prefered it? You be the judge. When I went looking for a bike I walked into many a showroom getting an idea of what I would like to ride. When I walked into the Suzuki/Indian/Triumph dealership I scanned the showroom and she caught my eye. Love at first site. Going through the purchasing process I was asked which TBA I wanted. Huh? "Which one would you like? The red or the black one?" "There's a black one?" "Yeah right next to the red." Raising myself out of the seat I strained my neck to look out the door into the showroom and see a black TBA next to my red. Turning back...."the red." Never been sorry since. I just think the black's blend into the background much to easily and can be assumed for another brand that way. Imagine my surprise to see how much faster they were too.

Blend into the background...maybe. Maybe that's how the Black owners like it sometimes. But they are definitely Triumphs and will NEVER be assumed to be anything else...
And I've ridden a Red one....and my Black ones are definitely faster!

Cheers brother! It's always grand to sit back [inebriated] and revel at the sight at two bikes you love so dearly. One...sincerely & deeply. The other one, you love like a mother loves her fat, ugly brat of a child  with a straight face and a bitter heart...you figure out which is which.

When i brought my TBA the dealership had two TBAs on the showroom floor. Both of them were Blue. And they had a couple of Speedmasters but i do not remember the colors. I liked the blue but it did not reach out a grab me. I had seen a picture of a red one in a magazine and that is what made me go to the shop to look at one. Luckily for me, the dealer said he could locate a Red one for me and bring it in. On those words i put down a deposite and told him to call me when it arrived. Which it did two days later. I think he got it from a dealer in Alabama. I must confess, I do love Red Triumphs, old and new. The only other color that really gets me drooling is the Silver and Blue 1977 Silver Jubilee Bonnie

I fell in love with the tornado red & black Speedmaster immediately. So did my wife, who NEVER liked ANY motorcycle.
If you've seen a pic of my Victory, it's RED. REALLY red. It screams at you. And so far I can tell you, red bikes save lives.

Well, I have to admit I am a "green" guy...three of my last five bikes have been some fine shade of green, but, I just rescued Scarlett from a sad life in a parking garage in Atlanta and I, too, am smitten by a red beauty...

I don't know Moe. My recollecton was I first saw the red BA in a motorcycle magazine and was really drawn to it. When I got to the local dealership in Oct. of 2001 there were only two choices as you already know and CMS had both. I can say that before delivery I think I changed my mind a half dozen times. You see in the Triumph brochure that was given to me the black one was looking really nice as well in their studio shot. I finally made the decision on red and I think my reasoning was simply I had already had enough black bikes before (my HD - go figure right?) Sue was also an influence as well. Regardless it has alway been a beautiful sight ever since, but, I won't lie the original choice was a tough one.

When I went to buy my America, I had only seen them on the Triumph web site. As you know, and as I have lamented here before, the pictures on the Triumph site are horrible. Anyway, without seeing one in person and only from the website, I am in love with the Blue's. I call the dealership a few hours away, and they say they have a Blue one with my name on it. Deposit to hold goes from my bank account to theirs.
My buddy and I drive several hours to go see my Blue in person, and to bring her home. But, what happens, they have sold my Blue. Pain, despair, madness. I hear excuses, but it is hard to forgive. They have a Black on the floor, and it is indeed beautiful - BUT, my heart was set on the Blue. I look at the Speedies, and yes, especially the Yellow one, they are a sight to behold. BUT, the Yellow has been sold and is on hold. Consternation again - Mr Dealer, you sold my Blue that I had on hold, but you wont let me have the Yellow Speedie???
Unhappy. But, the Black is indeed beautiful. My buddy is pushing me for the Black. I think I am going to like this Black beauty.
THEN, despised dealer remembers they have another one in the back. It is rolled out. LOVE at FIRST sight. YES, she is a Red. YES, she was made for me. YES, she has to be mine. I had ignored her picture on the website, but now I know true beauty.
The Black was immediately shunned, and the Red became mine.
Happiness, joy, excitement.
Still in love with Red. And, apparently, so is everyone else. Stoplights, parking lots, everywhere. Would others have also secretly coveted a Black - or a Blue?? Yeah, they would - But not like my Red.

I went to the dealer looking for the red and black America, but saw the black and yellow Speedmaster and I was sold. Growing up in Pittsburgh in the Seventies you get kind of attached to that color combination. Visions of Terry Bradshaw throwing to Lynn Swann and John Stallworth. Mean Joe Greene. Jack Lambert. Franco Harris and the Immaculate Reception (sorry Raiders fans - NOT!!!)
The blacked out engine was just an added bonus. Those of you who have been here for a while may remember my signature line from 4 years ago: "Steeler fan in Philly". I have a 10 year old daughter who wears a Steeler shirt on Eagles shirt day at school (every Friday before an Eagles game...)
Women and cats will do as they please. Men and dogs should just get used to that fact and relax

Revelry is intoxicating is it not?
Contrary to short and stout, she didn't grow up she grew out...
...Both girls have their charm. Vera is wonderfully majestic, yet refined. Her wisdom has been forged in time, her beauty, ageless. All the more reason to keep Red young, fresh and innocent. Although she has yet to traverse puberty, I can see in her a potential to blossom into a wondrous creature.
So harden not your heart. All love need not be either-or, but indeed some love may be difficult if not impossible to demarcate.

I dunno, my Blue TBA seems to gather compliments everywhere I go, plus a few "Man!! I had a ____ Trumpet waaaay back when". Although I was a little bit insulted when one older guy asked about my Harley ....guess he heard the Bubs and just assumed. But turns out...yep you guess it. After I told him it was a Triumph, he started with "Man, I had a ____ Trumpet 20 some odd years ago" Yep, I like my Blue. Conwy

That's the point of this post. Here she is dressed down, not hopped up in any way, no chrome, no bells and whistles, yet none the less she catches the eye more in the short time I have had her than Vera ever has. Vera with her scepters, custom rear peg hangers, chrome this and that, reserve power at the throttle etc. I don't like Red for her looks though, its her beautiful mind that endears me.
Ron, I hope you didn't get flooded out last week. I bet you are real busy lately! Take care and I trust Dean will leave Texas alone. Austin is staring at more rain though...

almost every road bike i have owned has been either black or some form of red. i really dont care much for other colors on bikes. i do kinda like the new dark blue color for 08, would i buy one ??? i have alway been a sucker for a red head, but most have gotten me into trouble at some point, and you know the old saying "once you go black, you never go back" hahahahahahaha i walked into the dealer, saw a red one and a black one sittin side by side and never even sit on the red one. swung my leg over Millie and when the salesman came to me i made an offer, it was haggled over and i rode her home that night. my 72 (Prudence)is a burgudy shade of red, so i guess kinda like you Moe...i have the best of both hahahahahahahahaha glad you are ENJOYING!!!!!!
ENJOY!!!!! NEWT!!!!!

I guess I never did wish you luck with the new ride Jim. She is beautiful but then again you make Vera look so good as well.
Enjoy both and stay safe no matter which you are riding.

Friday August 31, 2007. Lynn meets Red (Lucille).
Saturday September 1: Lynn says Vera is a nicer looking bike than Lucille. Lynn asks for a spin on Lucille. Then we go look for proper English garage mates: X's, and L2's.
