I just changed my oil and installed Amsoil EaOM103 filter on and took bike on short ride... Got back and cranked her up on the lift, right on the bottom of the oil filter. Now instead of being rather rounded on the bottom of the filter, it is rather flat. What an idiot... More dumb insurance I guess. So should I replace the filter or will it do it's job. Any thoughts?

it will still do it's job as long as it isn't leaking.

Thanks for posting this. I've never quite gotten over re-filling the oil without having replaced the drain plug a few years back and now you make me feel absolutely brilliant.

For a couple of bucks, I'd replace it and have piece of mind. You can get it off and the new one on pretty quickly with a minimal mess.

Might be a good test to see if restrictive oil flow really keeps the pressure up. No, I'm just kidding...my $7.85 is on replacing it for peace of mind.

I agree with oldroadie and if nothing else the volume of the filter will be restricted and I think(???) the oil filters have a blocked bypass system meaning the oil dosnt get filtered at all by damaging your filter you may have activated this system.
Why not collect the oil in a very clean container ie the one it came in and save the cost of new oil.
Or then again you can always use the best oil which is
-------- diesel oil!!! no hate mail please Dog33

I would not consider starting that bike up without changing the oil "and" the filter again. Who knows what damage was done to the interior of that filter and what filtering products could have been moved into the engine because of it. Just my opinion.

Diesel oil is for Diesel engines period. Triumph does not make diesels.

You started it revnd.

So far 6 to 1 in favor of a new filter. If it was a game show it would be a no brainer. Thanks

All I can say is I have seen plenty of filters with the end flattened a little with no adverse effect. unless you missed the frame completely and jacked on the filter alone you didn't crush it enough to hurt anything. If it bothers you and you want peace of mind then spend $8 and change it,if you change it I wouldn't try and save the oil as mentioned above. Go get a quart and fill it with fresh oil.

I paid $14+ for the Amsoil filter, and had to wait a week to get it. What is a good filter that will fit my America or should I go to the dealer and get an OE filter? The dealer is closed on Mondays...

Check the tech vault on " filters" , there is a list of them ( about 10 ) that will work on your BA . Available at most any parts store . Wix , Fram , NAPA , ect .

Hey gregor I should not steal some ones thread but when is a diesel oil not diesel oil when such an excellent high performance oil is used in a high stress situation such as in a motorcycle.
And if anyone disagrees I will pray for them
Blessings

Change it! Mobil 1 has a good filter and are fairly easy to find.

Bob, Replace it with a Purolator PureONE PL14612 from PepBoys. I've been running them for about a year.
Just place a catch pan underneath. Strain the oil through a coffee filter and reuse. Should be good to go.
PS: it's probably ok but what the heck spend the $ 5.00 bucks.

NAPA Gold #1358 also readily available. $4 for an Amsoil filter sounds like a good deal. Most of the Premium filters are close to $10.

I agree with mike. i have been using the purolator
PureOne PL14612 since my bike was new. I would also highly recommend them. A couple of years ago one of our Guru's on this board bought up a whold lot of different filters and cut them in half. He was very impressed with the pure one. Dinqua, on this board also uses and reccommends the PureOne from Pepboys. To me, that says it all.

You could always buy this beauty

which can be cleaned and re-used over and over again. and given how much the filters cost over here in Aus, I estimate I'll have paid it off after 5 oil changes and after that I'm saving good money

I'm yet to put it on my bike as I'm waiting on parts for the 20k service but it's got a pretty good write-up

here's Scotts website

It also comes with a part that helps with screwing it on and off (see right). It fits underneath the outer casing and has a 1/4" recess for a socket driver to fit.

Just don't crush it like Bob did though

I actually crushed mine a bit the first time I used a jack. It popped back out within a week. Never noticed any problem.
