So I went out to lunch with a couple of friends the other day and one asked if his co-worker Marius could come along. Having worked with Marius and knowing him to be a nice guy, I said sure! I go get my truck and pull up to the front door as I also know that Marius has a leg deformity and can only walk slowly, with a cane.
So we are at lunch, everyone talking and joking, and the talk eventually gets around to riding. I'm telling stories, my friend is telling stories and I notice Marius sitting there quietly with a sad, wistful look on his face. It struck a chord in me and I steered the conversation elsewhere and eventually, Marius joined back in.
I didn't say anything to anyone but it just made me realize how friggin lucky I am.
Happy Friday to all of you.....

Great post Phil. That was big of you in a very subtle way.
It's easy to forget how good some of us have it. Every once in a while you hear a story like this and it makes you take an accounting of your blessings.
Happy Friday!

I agree, we are blessed on so many fronts. I never loose sight of how lucky i am.
Heres a question for you, Does Marius' disability mean he could not sit on a motorcycle?
An offer of a short ride on the back of your bike might make his day. Maybe he needs a small push to realize that maybe he could join in with this passion of ours.
Just a thought. Happy friday to you to.

Sounds as if that guy got a bit sad with the riding stories, the desire is there. If the desire is there, there is always a way to get it accomplished. I know a guy that is missing a leg that rides a trike. Both brakes are hand controled.
As bad as things can seem sometimes, I am pretty darn fortunate.

I'm right there with you Phil. It's easy to overlook life's blessings until that un-named unseen force taps you on the shoulder...

My buddy lost his leg on his bike but he still rides with his peg leg no problem. He just does not use his back brakes and he has a bracket where he rests his peg in

Thanks for the reminder. Its so easy to forget sitting in a drab cube.
Getting out on my new (but used) Triupmh in 3 weeks will remind me again.

Actually, while reading Phil's story here, something along this line was what I was thinkin'....Maybe Marius' leg was the result of a bad experience ON a motorcycle, and he's a bit close-mouthed about it. Hopefully it wasn't.
It was nice of you to sense his feeling left out and move the conversation along there Phil.
I too often wonder why more people never "caught the motorcycling bug", but I can see how their perceived fear of this sport can override their desire to participate in it.
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

He loves bikes and he could, with effort, get on a bike but his leg will not allow him to ride by himself. I've offered him rides but he always refuses and I don't push it. I've told him about alternatives and he thanks me and that's it. Again, I don't push it. I count my blessings.

Maybe a trike. I have a buddy with an after market leg that rides a VW trike. He could ride 2 wheels but is afraid to due to the leg. As for count your blessings I agree I have 2 friends who are quadrapalegics (sp?) due to accidents Both can move arms but not hands. One had a HD with specially built side car to fit the wheelchair and another friend used to drive for him. That was stolen by some scum bag at Daytona Bike Week.

Where there's a will, there's a way. Give him a gift of some 3 wheeler fliers or maybe a link to the brotherhood of the third wheel.

I was looking for a goldwing trike for him on Ebay. Found some but not that was to his liking.
