What tires do you recommend?
I know this was discussed before but can't locate any threads on it. Thinking of getting Metzler's.

I think Metzlers are best but I recently got an IRC rear of stock size. Its Wild Flame model and I really like it holds the road well and so far seems to be wearing well. Cost me all of $100.

$250 installed and balanced is close to what I'll be spending to replace mine with 880s so that seems to be in line.

I love my Avon Venoms. I only get about 7-8000 miles out of the rear, though. I've always heard good things about the Metz.

I've got over 13,300 on the stock Metzelers and they ride great, even in the rain.

I got almost 13,000 out of the stock Metzler's on Speedy. I replaced them with the same. You can't complain about that kind of mileage on a motorcycle tire. Granted, they were a little thin at the end...

Anyone try mixing tires? I am due for a rear tire. Have Avons on there now. Thinking about a Metzler...

Why not? It's not like the stock tread patterns are matched. Just can't mix bias and radial as far as I know.

You certainly can mix radial and bias ply on bikes. The T 100 for example comes with a Metzeler MEZ2 steel belted radial on the rear and a Lazertec bias ply on the front from the factory. I personally run mixed bias/radial on my Scrambler, Metz Tourance steel belted radial rear and Metz Tourance , bias on the front.

I've had the Avons and currently have the Metzlers on there.
I loved the Avons. The grip on wet roads was amazing and it gave you the feeling that the roads were dry. The problem is they just don't last very long but that is the trade off for good performance tires.
Right now I'm still up in the air with the Metzler's. I have noticed that they don't hold the road as well on a wet surface as the Avons but they are a good tire in wet conditions and are night and day compared to the stock Bridgstones that I had on originally.
If the Metzler's last longer than the Avons than these will be the tires for me. Good handling on wet surfaces and a decent lifespan.

A difference in traction would be my concern. Having Pirelli MT 66 Routes (can you say hard) on my slower red one, I would want the Metz or Avon up front first or at least that is my train of thought.

I like the ME880's too. I just put an ME880XXL on the front, a 130/70. Looks nice and handles better than the 110/80. And Americanmototire.com has 'em cheap.

I have the IRC on the back and still have the stock Metzler on the front at over 14,000. I think I put the IRC on at about 12,000 miles might have been closer to 13,000 not sure, but so far no visible wear and haven't noticed and difference in the ride wet or dry. I'll keep you all posted if I find anything I don't like about it and for the mileage.

You just convinced me about the Avons. I have the original Bridgestones which have shown no wear at 7K but they have NO traction in wet weather either. I'm scared to ride in the rain with them.

I get to roll the venoms for about a year before they need to be replaced. They look like the yute's tires too at right around 11,000 miles. crazy yutes.

I hear the avons are super in the wet...but I have to say I have had my stock Bridgestones in some VERY SERIOUS storms (and never for a short time NH rally 06 6 hours in monsoon downpours(like rivers across roads) and home from Pats NE rally 06 5 hours on the NY Thruway at 70 in pouring rain AND HAIL! and GA Rally 07 NH to Scranton PA in the pouring rain...never felt disconnected from the road...but after GA I have started to notice some wear...8300 miles

No, I don't have pics. Yes, I run a front fender. 110/80 is 88mm tall sidewall. 130/70 is 91mm sidewall. It fits fine.

You're running a 130 front without modifying the stock fender bracket?

Yes. I just went to the garage to check, one inch clearance at the sides of the fender, a half-inch clearance in the middle. I wouldn't try it with a /90 tire, but a /70 is only 3mm taller sidewall.

I guess my 120 Avon is an 90 series tire which is just tall enough to rub without modifying the bracket.
Crap, I guess Avon does make a 130/70, but my 120/90 is on the way and will be here Monday. Plus I've already modded my fender bracket.

Do you think there will be much handling difference going with the larger front tire?

I don't know. It seemed to run smoother and track nicer when I went to the 120. It was a little "heavier," but in a good way. With the lower-profile 130 I have no idea how it would change.

The problem is, you don't change from fresh to fresh. It handles much better than the worn-out 110/80 Metzler it replaced
