I’m not sure if this is where to post but here’s my problem

I have a 03 BA and when the tank gets low it seems to lose power for a short spell and them all of a sudden I get my power back. I’m wondering could this be a venting problem or has that crap they coated the filler neck settled into the bottom of the tank?

Also is the reserve tank electrical?

There is no reserve tank. It's just the bottom .9 gallon portion of the tank and it's governed by the petcock.

It doesn't take much to clog the filter on the "wand" end of the petcock and cause these exact symptoms. Think of the inside end of the petcock as two straws made of a fine screen, one shorter that the other. When the tall one is higher than the fuel, you switch to the shorter (reserve). It's one big happy tank and I'll bet you've got a bit of debris in yours.

A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort. Herm Albright (1876 - 1944)

If it has debris in it I bet it isn't happy anymore.

May appear as advice to the Obtuse , but if you go on reserve , DON'T forget to flick the petcock back to the "on" position after you fuel up or you will be OUT of fuel next time she sputters . The petcock lever is a confusing configuration to reach down and feel , I cut and ground the top of the lever off so it is unidirectional , feel - lever down ,ON , lever up , Reserve . Easier .

I've had problems getting used to that lever as well. But, i haven't had the bike very long. That sounds like a good idea.
I had thought of marking the point (would still have to visually see the position though) with something, or making a small groove into it.

All I do is try and turn it toward the on position if it doesn't go then it's already there. I do that as I ride every so often just to be sure and I also give the choke a little tap for the same reason that way I can never forget.

Good point. I've just started riding again after many years. I messed with it awhile ago and now realize that the lever comes to a stop turning it to 'on'. it'll become second nature before long.
Also discovered i have a flat tire on the rear..looks like a nail.
