I have been looking at several different bikes recently and keep coming back to the Triumph. I will be purchasing a bike soon and really have my heart set on the america, the only hang up for me is it's 865cc motor. I'm worried that for the type of riding i'll do with it it won't be able to do. I'm wanting to go on a week or 2 week long trip once a year. Will this bike be able to handle that? Compared to other bikes I've looked it, it's fairly small engine wise. Any info or experience you have would be greatly appreciated as I really want this bike!!! Thanks.

Stop your worrying and just get the America. Yes, the America will be able to handle that no problems at all. Nobby traveled from the U.K and all over the U.S. on his America (when the motors were 790 cc). currently Bedouin has traveled from Greece to just about everywhere in Europe. You have to remember that 25 years ago, 900 cubic centimeters was a huge bike and people were traveling accross the world on bikes that were 750ccs and smaller. Soren

Lots of choices with pipes too. Epcos, Staintunes, Thunderbikes or some generic slip-ons (of various styles). There are more, but that is what i can think of off the top of my head.

Jeez, I hope it will last two weeks cuz I'm going on a 2800 mile trip during the second half of September. And I've only got a measley 790cc.

D&D has the megaphone type pipes. You can order them from Brent's site...

I've seen Brent's site before, and those D & D's are nice, but I want to find the BUB megaphone pipes like jeepspot has on his bike in the audio and video section of this site. Anybody know where i can find them?

British Customs has the Bubs for the America, but, they're not megaphones. Bella Corse has the Bub megaphones, but, are shown with the T100. Maybe (as slip ons) they will fit the America. Bella Corse is in the links section next to Brent's site.

Now that I have checked out the audio/video section I remember those pipes. Bub doesn't carry those in their current offering from Bub direct, so, I'm wondering if they were discontinued as I seem to remember them offered that way unless Jeepspot cut the ends off and put his own end caps on.

the Bub megaphones are WERE only available for the Bonneville/T100/Thruxton bikes. They are currently out of production and MAY resume production this fall or winter. They won't fit the America or Speedmaster though.

I had a 650 Triumph in school and would take trips all summer vacation long with it. So did my friend on his 350 single. I wanted to ride my America when we moved from CA to NM, but there wasn't time to drive the cages and then go back for the bikes. I have Epco pipes and love them.

I've had Sceptres on since late 02 or early 03. First the shortys and then the long version. 404 stainless inside and out and where the hanger joins the muffler...it's rubber mounted...NICE!!! but also $650 currently.

Here's the input from an almost old guy. Ive been riding the older Triumphs for 30 years, 650s and 750s. I've ridden to every corner of the U.S. except Washington state. I pack the gear so high on them that I graze overpasses (seems like). My old trumpets only had 40 or so horses but I still passed anything on the road that I wanted to. My newer 02 has 60 horses. I plan on doing the same with the 02. Truth is, the U.S. is just plain crazy on horse power, but the Triumphs have plenty to get you there! (That said, it would be kinda fun to have a 1000 cc bonny. but that's just for fun.)

I just fitted some Triumph Long Slash-cut "Off-Roads" (TORs). There may be louder pipes available, but I would not be able to stand it.
They do sound good, though.
I rode 400 miles yesterday (that might apply to your original post query) after 66 miles after 10:00 Saturday night. I wear earplugs for windnoise anyway, so these pipes are fine with me. I did ride it down the seawall in Galveston yesterday though, with no earplugs. Lots of red lights. I could not ride much with these pipes and no earplugs. I think that would be more tireing than the riding itself.
