has anyone else out there had any problems with the quality of hte chrome work on their Thunderbike pipes. At a little over 2 years old the chrome has come off around where the Thunderbike badge is on the end bit of the pipe. The bike has clocked 50,000kms in the 2 years that the pipes have been on.

Don't know if it is the stuff the Kiwi's chrome with but the chrome work is started to flake off on the saddlebag supports as well and they are the ones I bought from Thunderbike as well.

I have mentioned this to Graeme before. Drop him a note and maybe he will do something for you. I remember when chy got his there was a problem and they were about the same age. They were replaced for free.

Yes, started flaking a year ago. Not too bad now, but I expect it to get worse.

Also the packing didn't last a season. When I pulled the baffles out to check, half of a side, on each pipe was gone.

As a possible future customer given all the positives regarding their breathing capabilities and great tone, these comments aren't too flattering and may make me think twice. Great to get honest feedback though

Ian,
I had the same problem, seems there was a bad batch of chroming in 2005. I sent them pictures and they sent me a new set of skins. Ya haf to put your baffles in, they replaced only the skins. It took a while so be patient, but they did deliver. They do stand behind there quality.

I wonder if the badge is allowing it to retain and concentrate heat in that area. I took the badges off before I installed the pipes and no issues yet.

Maybee WildMike can assist. He lives in Nelson N.Z. I got some stuff from Thunderbikes the other day and it mentioned they were getting a huge amount of spam ( 18000/day). Or you can send one to me and I will post it down.

I managed to fight my way through all the spam that Thunderbike are getting and I got a reply in regards to my enquiry about the Thunderbike mufflers. They wanted some pictures of the problem and then asked me just what I wanted them to do about it. I asked them for a replacement skin for the stuffed one and they said yes they would make up one for me straight away.
Now thats what I call customer service, could you ask for anything better...

The new muffler has arrived and what a difference 55,000 km makes on what a baffle and pipe looks like.

I cannot say enough good things about Thunderbike and their customer service.

Duck,

I had the same problem with my pipes within 7-8 months. Approx a quarter of the chrome peeled off completely on both pipes (on the inside - i.e. the side facing the bike's frame) although more so on the one.
I still have them on and they look like I have had them since WWII.
I had (back then) been e-mailing TB for months and ONLY got a response when I complained about the pipes on HERE.

See Thread here.

Like yourself, I was also asked to forward pictures, which I did.
I was then told I would be receiving replacement pipes.

This was 2 years ago and still ... nothing.

After some other issue regarding what I consider misrepresentation (I was only informed that the 865cc engine does not enjoy the performance gains as does the 790cc engine ... AFTER I bought them, even though we had been corresponding for months awaiting their actual tests on this engine)... I then just gave up.

Unfortunately, I don't share either your faith or your good luck with TB.
