As I was in work today remembering the fun of riding in a group from the weekend at the NH rally I thought, we need to do this more. So here is an idea. Lunch in the Berkshires one day over Labor day weekend. It is pretty central to a whole bunch of people who can get there in just a couple of hours. We could all meet in the Berkshires do a small ride together then lunch and back home. Should make for a good full day of riding and I know some good roads from here in "Worchester", as Uncle Charlie would say. So speak up and let's see if we can put something together. We have three weeks time to plan something.

Sounds good. What day are you planing on?
I've been heading up into the Berkshires the last few weeks checking out some new roads. Lots of great secondary roads with little or no traffic during the week.
Would be best to stay off main roads, and away from large cities on a holiday weekend.

I was open to either Saturday or Sunday in case one day is raining. I was thinking people from Ct., depending what part could hook up and ride north. People from east and central Ma. , RI,eastern Ct. and southern NH could do the same and ride west. People from NY could ride east. We pick a spot and meet. It seems like an easy thing to do. Whoever can make it makes it. If it go's well we could try maybe a couple of times a year.

Brian, if we do something, let's avoid any MA Pike.....all the back-to-collegers and empty-out-the cottagers are on that road that weekend.

My idea is 140 to the back of Mt. Watchusett, over the the top with a possible quick spin to the summit. From there down to the center of Princeton onto 62 out to the center of Barre. Pick up 122 out to 202 up to Rte 2,the Mohawk trail, then on out the rest of the way. I can't think of any lights and very few stop signs till we swing up to Rte. 2. It is a great ride with very nice cruising at comfortable speeds on nice scenic winding roads. No highway riding at all.

Brian- if we do this ride on Saturday, we could then have Sunday free for the MDA ride ending at Vanson Leathers in Fall River.

Anyone still interested in riding up in the Berkshires next weekend? I know I have to work Sat 9/1 Looks like Sun or Mon would be the better for me. Maybe pick a centrally located place and meet for lunch.

I would still like to see if anyone wants to do a ride. Saturday Or Sunday works for me. Or maybe I should rephrase that and say I am doing some kind of a ride. I would really like to spend one day riding all day. Monday is the only day that is out for me.

I've got my daughter this weekend....once I know her work and social schedule, I'll know whether I'm free to ride.

No Matt it is in Princeton which is north of Holden which is north of Worcester. I just threw it in there for part of the ride cause I know some people have never been there. It is the highest place in Ma. and you can see Boston on a clear day. Hope some more people chime in. Time is getting short, new pipes are on the bike and the weather is supposed to be perfect. Mid 70's and dry with lots of sunshine.

Sunday is looking like it. I think I may be driving my daughter to a party in New Braintree on Saturday. I'm toying with the idea of going on the bike with her. Monday is out as I have a retirement party for one of my uncles. ALTHOUGH I now do have Thursday and Friday off too.

The Watchuset area is REAL nice!! My old stomping grounds... That's where I learned to ride. I have a friend from Holden. I always ask her if she knows that one guy...

I can come up with something. I'm off Thu & Fri,work Sat, off Sun & Mon. If we go Sun I will try to stick to secondary roads. I've got a bicycle map of western Mass. shows lots of great back roads.
Mark

At the least lets try for breakfast or lunch at Toymakers

Sounds like the Ct. contingent is getting their ducks in a row for a Sunday ride to meet in the Berkshires. Where are all the Massholes and NH people? Frank,Mark(yeah your one now)Tony. I will include Paula but not in the same group after all she is a lady. What about Rob,Dill and Lee(the other)? Are we going to let one of the nicest Memorial day weekends for riding go by? I already did 200+ today up into NH over to Vt. and back down to Ma. Ready to go again on Sunday.

Grrrrrr.
My daughter is working 11:45-4:15 on Sunday. This is not HAPPYING me.
I won't be in for a long ride for Sunday. The best I'll be doing ( if I can somehow arrange a ride for my daughter 1 way) is getting a couple hours worth of local riding and maybe to the MDA Fundraising event in Fall River for a bit to oogle leather.

How about a trip around Twin Lakes then up over Mt Washington (MA) to Bash Bish Falls, down into Copake then back over into MA through Egremont and Housatonic and maybe over toward Becket? It's all paved.

Camping for all at Bucky's Hotel, followed by your helping with the porch step campaign on Monday. (Ha ha)

Grrrr This summer is just NOT looking to be a good one for riding for me. Honestly the most riding I did was the trip to the BIA event!

Brian, where in VT did you go?

I swear, next year we are doing a SoVer ride!!

Benny,

I just took 123 from 9 over to the border. Then picked up 12 down to where I could cross the river and then 5 back down into Greenfield. 123 from 9 is an awesome stretch of road. There was some construction so I am planning to go there again when it is all done.
But this should make you really nuts. Killington bike rally

Toymakers Cafe is at 85 Main Street, Falls Village, CT. It's at the intersection of Rt 7 and Rt 126. You can put that address in mapquest.
I will be there at 9:30 tomorrow.

Come on down Brian! Toymakers is around 100 miles from Woostah.
Lay down on the tank, put your toes on the tail light, and you can make it in an hour.

Of note - DO NOT run 44 West out of the center of Hartford.
The first few miles are hardcore crime zone with stop lights every 200 feet.
I doubt any harm would befall you, but it's a lousy ride.
If you want to make time going West, consider the pike to exit 2, then 102 West to 7 South.
Morning traffic should be fairly light. My house is around 2 miles South of the MA / CT border,
and I can escort you to Toymakers from there if you like.

Big Poppy - unleash those scooters and join us. Hot Lanta will be there when you get there.
Consider the trip delay some practice for a more laid back Southern life style. We even arranged sunny & 70 for you.
We'll need to see our ol' Pop & Company for a brefest send off. Brett must surely need some guff
from me to tide him over until the next GA Rally.
