hello,,
i was hoping to find an anwser to my problem. hopefully someone out there has seen or understands what is going on with my tba.

i had the machining done and added the wiseco big bore kit to her this last spring, 790cc-904cc. bike was running flawlessly i was very pleased, but developed a base gasket oil leak from the wiseco steel base basket.

took her down again and replaced the wiseco gasket with a hand made felt gasket to insure a good seal (and re-scuffed cylinder walls). the wiseco gasket was .020" thick and my felt gasket is .032" thick, this is the only thing that has changed.

once again bike runs fine,, however the the entire cam train rattles terribly now. i have re-checked and re-assmbled the cam and buckets over and over there is absolutely nothing wrong....and yet it clatters ..???

before anyone jumps to a responce go to this link and listen carefully to this gentlemens tba,, you will hear the clatter im talking about sounds like a an old steam engine coming into dodge city.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X4jkTELo_rQ
watch all video and listen to motor, its amazing.

so anyway the tba is parked until i understand why the last assembly has changed an engine that went from being so quiet during operation to sounding so terribly. please, no wisenhiemers or stab answers this is a huge upsetting problem for me. i just want to be able to ride again.

oh yes one more thing not to confuse this post, as per the debate on big bore vrs cams for performance next time i would go with cams and headwork. there was no stunning performance increase with this kit alone, the higher compression and increased diplacement is more pronounced and helpful but i dont now believe is best bang for the buck.

Is it possible that when you hand made your gasket you missed an oil journal port? Sounds like it's completely lacking lubricant in the video clip.

Sounds like you didn't reset the timing chain tensioner.

hello oldroadie,,
the oil port in the base gasket is for the cooling circuit the way i understand it, and i tested it as well. functioning fine. i also started bike with cam cover removed to check cam circuit, oil is still dripping from my garage ceiling so im gonna have to say the cams/bearings are being oiled suffeciantly.

hello dog33,,
timing chain ratchet paul sets itself upon assembly, however its a good thought and perhaps i should double check that as well.

How about the tension on the cams?

if you tear the motor down you MUST pull the timing chain tensioner and reset it. Once there is slack on the timing chain the tensioner pushes in on the chain to take away the slack, BUT when you put the motor back together with out resetting it the chain becomes WAY to tight and will most likely break.
