I used my jig saw, some masking tape and a metal blade on my last bike; I think a lot of folks probably use a die grinder with a cut off wheel. A nice b*st*rd mill file is good follow up after the cut to take the sharpness off the edge. Looks like the tooth grade of the file is an illegal word here

A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort. Herm Albright (1876 - 1944)

I used a mini cutoff wheel and followed that with a grinder to shape and finish the edge.

it is best to start the project on a Saturday. Try to have 1 or 2 friends around. After the 4th whisky and water you should have enough nerve to take the cutting wheel to your $450 msrp rear fender. And by the time you wake up on Sunday morning, try to remember what you did the day before, you will discover a beautifully bobbed rear fender laying on the floor of your garage. If you don't believe me just look at my picture(s).

Draw out the cut line! Lay down some masking tape first if you're not going to repaint after the cut. This also makes it easier to see the line.
If you want it symmetrical, make a paper pattern for each side (mark one side and flip it over for the other side). Try to use the bolt holes as a measuring point to match up the sides.

Judging from this picture: It's mounted the same way as Case's Bruiser in that other thread - front end mounted to the front of the swingarm and struts mounted to the back of both.

Havent done one but I would start by drawing out what I want to cut on the fender, tape it off and use a Dremel with a nice cutting wheel...........

First you mark the fender. Then you drop $1200 on a Drag-gun portable plasma cutter. Then you practice on some scrap sheetmetal to get the hang of cutting straight. Then you grind off the paint around where you marked. Then you swear as you redraw the line where you want to cut. Then you cut it with the plasma cutter. Then you grind the edge smooth and even. Then you prep and paint the fender. Then you have a beer.

I bought a rear-ended one from a member here. They're much cheaper that way, and if you're going to be bobbing, why hack up a perfect fender?

My buddy has since upgraded but he started out with a Drag-gun portable. It cost him around $1200. It did great with sheetmetal but only went up to a quarter-inch flat steel, and it was breathing hard. But it was very portable running on 110V and contained an internal air compressor. Last year he sold it and bought a bigger one that requires a separate compressor but will cut through 3/8" plate all day like butter. I wanna say the new one cost him $2200-2500.

My Miller 650 cost $1750. It'll cut 5/16" steel like butter. I'll bet you could pick up something less industrial, maybe even used, that would be acceptable for that kind of $. Once one has gone plasma there's no turning back. Chopping becimes an addiction.

cut off its arms and legs and throw it in a lake.
I need a plasma cutter that will do that but also 1/4" to 1/2" mild and stainless.
