Wild looking leading link front end. My question is: why take a Speedy and turn it into this? And what's up with that rear wheel?

Oldroadie, Rear Wheel - Standard rim - flat & low profile tyre, I used a similar setup albiet car rim/tyre laced to my standard rear hub(could get a replacement tyre anywhere and heaps cheaper too).I would have gotten a higher profile tyre just to fill in the void if anything else. His leading link is a beauty,a real work of art and very functional. All round a great outfit ( I still luv outfits, great fun & very functional) it's a real credit to the builder. Hoffo

I'm skeptical of the clamp-on top shock mount. but, it is funky-cool.

Can somebody explain, in layman's (shaddup) terms, how that front end benefits trikes/sidehacks? I've seen it on a bunch of them. It looks like the wheel still leans over in a turn, so I figure it's not about making the steering angle (caster) the same as a car.

That's the whole point, you really have to moose the steering to drive a hack. My first run down the driveway with mine and I ended up in the field across the road...silly me, I tried to lean to steer the rig. I suspect that leading link offers a much needed beefier suspension setup. I'd love to see it from the other side. Hoffo, I didn't think it thru, I'll bet that's a better match for the sidecar's tire profile.

The second thing I didn't think thru is the Speedy's dual discs up front, I'll bet you'd need that to slow that much mass and stay in control. I'm switching sides..it's a good choice if a sidecar's your thing.

look at the size of those rotors too must be the extra leverage needed to stop. Those (Earls) front ends work well for sidecars BMW did it for years. I have a stock Earls front end on my 64 BMW R50. No clamp on shock mounts though and that doesn't look great to me. The reason is steering geometry. Even Vincent has 2 positions in it's stock front end for side car mounting. The Earls I have has 2 positions too one for solo and one for sidecar.

Not my cup of tea, kudos to the builder though, I think anybody that has the huevos to take a hack at doing something out of the ordinary on such a beautiful bike is A-ok in my book!
Best looking black girl around!
