I just bought a used 2004 America. Seemed to ride just fine. Had 3000 miles on it. Put about 15 miles on it today and parked it. Fired it up a few minutes later and when I went from neutral to 1st it cut off. It does this each time as if the clutch is not engaging. I can roll the bike in gear while holding in the clutch but it turns off each time I try to go from neutral to 1st while its running. Any ideas what the problem might be??

+1 Check the kickstand switch.

DUH!!! Thanks folks. Boy do I feel stupid! Guess you might suspect I'm not the most mechanically inclined. I don't remember the old 72 Bonnie I rode back in the 70's having one of those. Maybe it did and I just don't remember. Been a long time. Anyway, I just made a 900 mile roundtrip to pick up my America and I was beginning to think there was a reason for the good deal I got. Thanks again for the help.
