Sting, Andy and Stuart went on last night at around 8:30pm. The stage stood about twenty feet high, off of center field. It was huge. The stage was bordered with LEDs which not only produced a wild light show, but would also capture stage images. These were complimented by 5 High Def. screens which broadcast the stage activity much more vividly. The set list consisted of the classics... but not too many deep album cuts. I wanted to hear "Man in Suitcase" and "Canary in Coal Mine" - but no such luck.
Sting's voice sound great, and he is mutha f'kr on the bass.
Andy was spot on... his playing was creative, and his articulation is as good as ever. Sadly, his leaping scissor kicks from the drum risers weren't as high as they used to be! Stuart Copeland isn't human. He is a metronome with arms. He was laying down sick beats, with crazy, syncopated fills. He used a traditional grip on the left hand, which surprised me. ( index and thumb on top and middle finger beneath )

Those old dudes sounded better than cats half their age. ( no, I wasn't there early enough to hear Sting's son's band open)
Of course the million dollar sound system helped a bit.
It's amazing when 3 musicians lock on to each other and blow things a part.
If you have a chance to see them, I highly recommend it.
This is not some over-hyped reunion tour. This is where it's at.

I saw them in philly 2 weeks ago and came away very happy! I especially liked Copeland's percussion setup (on the riser behind his kit)...integrated the percussion well into songs. The new arrangements of tunes were good as well.
by the way, copeland has always played traditional grip. always amazed me that he can slam a beat like he does with traditional grip. it's all in the wrist!

they're coming back to philly to play an indoor show in november. I'm considering going - since that will most definitely be my last chance ever to see them live. I have to assume that they are done after this tour...

Never say never! Who knows? I am still holding my breath for:
The Smiths reunion
The Stone Roses reunion
and of course
Van Halen... they keep coming close!

I got word from a friend in the industry that the long-awaited Van Halen reunion with David Lee Roth is going to be re-announced very soon. Eddie is out of rehab, and the tour is a go.

The post title made me think you got arrested at a Sox game...

Women and cats will do as they please. Men and dogs should just get used to that fact and relax
