Several times in the past, people have talked about the ISO Grips for our bikes, and all the hassles of getting them on (sanding, cutting, trimming, lubricating, etc...) Well, just got a set from Ma's Cycles last week, that are custom made for our bikes, and they fit like a dream. No modifications of any sort. Here is the link: http://www.mascycles.com/catalog_keyword_search.asp?keysearch=Go&keyword=KA6236&submit=GoThese grips come with the entire throttle sleeve, so all you do, is ubolt the halves of the throttle housing, disconnect the 2 throttle cable ends, and slide the old throttle grip (entire thing) off of the bar, then slide the new one one, reconnect the cables to the new one, and put the throttle housing back together. Although the instructions say it isn't really needed, I did find that I needed to slacken the carb end of the cables to get enough slack to disconnect and reconnect the cable ends to the throttle grip. It really is a breeze, both sides took me about 20 min. total. The clutch side is a simple glue and slide on (there is a small hollow spacer that needs to be measured and cut with a razor to fill the gap inside between the end of the bar and the end of the grip, but that is very simple, mine was about 5/8". I then gave the glue about 20 minutes to set just to be sure, and off I rode. Pics are in my gallery, including closeups. They are nice and squishy heavy foam and nice looking chrome. However, one item, they are big, I mean, I feel like Conan holding his sword big, so for those with small hands, it might pose a problem reaching the levers. My hand measures 5 1/4" if I form an "L" with my thumb and forefinger, and measure from the side of my thumb to the top of my forefinger, I think the minimum would be about 4 3/4" for that measurement, since your index finger is a bit longer. The distance from the backside of the throttle grip to the front side of the brake lever is 3 3/4" next to the throttle housing so your finger should reach further than that to have good control.

Rockin' good news Greg! Been tossing around the ISO's but wasn't sure I wanted to deal with all the reported problems. Looks like I don't have to now.

What a coincidence..I was just at Ma's site looking at the grips wondering how easy it would be to fit them on our bikes....thanks for answering all my questions!! I do have small hands tho, so may need to rethink!

Hey Doug,
I installed the new and improved Kuryakyns awhil ago and love them. No trouble here either getting them on and they are as comfortable as can be.

Bayern - Got those from Ma's awhile ago myself. They are indeed the cure for numb hands, I've been very happy with them. Regarding your mirrors...are those the large or small Kuryakyn mirrors that Ma's sells? I've been wanting those for awhile but didn't want to jump before I knew just how big the large size is.

Wyrm, those are the large flat Küryakyn Magnums. One other benefit to the new grips, they dampen some of the vibration at steady speed, so the mirrors are clearer. On acceleration, nothing seems to help, but once settled they smooth right out for the most part.

Joker, yep the one with the Kill switch, just take out the 2 philips head screws in that housing, then the loosen up the 2 allens screws holding the whole assembly on (yep, you'll have to realign the whole housing to the prick mark on the bottom of the handlebar, but no big job there), slip the old off and the new on, and done.

I wish this kit was around when I put mine on. They are great though. I love the feel and they do take up alot of vibration on the road. If your going to be doing alot of long highway riding get the throttle rocker that matches. It looks great.

Only issue that I had, and I think Dinqua had the same issue, the bolt/screw on the left hand stock grip would not leave its home within the handlebar. No amount of torque or drilling would remove it. Finally, I hacked off the end, and left its decapitated self inside the bar.
Great grips. Godsend on long rides.

Ryan, I noticed that too. Luckily, I had 2 lbs of C-4 laying around, so packed half a pound or so into the cavity, and removed my neighbors windows, but it still wouldn't budge, so I broke it off with my allen wrench whilst trying to unscrew it....

I emailed Kuryakyn about their grips and asked which model number would I need to use on a '03 Triumph America. Their response: Quote:
You would need to use the universal grip #6240.
So which part number is it?

Don't know why Kuryakyn is telling you that but I bought the 6236's from Ma's Cycle and they fit perfectly

Phil is correct...Kuryakyn part number is 6236. Has the correct throttle sleeve in it already.

Al, not sure if maybe Ma's had the sleeves made up or custom ordered, but just go with Ma's cycles, then there is no chance of a foul up, and lost time, shipping costs, etc...

Just ordered them. Been meaning to do something about my old stock grips, and these look good and since they'll fit without any dinkin around thats great! Ordered a couple patched for my jacket and vest too while I was at it. Becky

Here's an e-mail I sent Kuryakyn concerning the KA6236 ISO-grips: Quote:
According to Ma’s Cycles and members of the BonnevilleAmerica.com forum the KA6236 ISO-Grip fits the Triumph America, Speedmaster, and Bonneville. The KA6236 is said to already have the correct throttle sleeve, and installs without any modification. You can find the back up for this information at the following links:
http://www.mascycles.com/eshopprod_cat_1...ca__Speedma.htm
http://www.bonnevilleamerica.com/forums/...0&fpart=all
Maybe your company can check to see if this is true and start marketing to Triumph motorcycles? Just an idea.

It looks like they just haven't bothered to do the application work, because these grips are originally for Honda cruisers like the Magna and Ace, and just happen to fit our bikes. Now that i look back on the whole thing, the packaging was stamped for a Honda model and Triumph (but the Küryakyn website doesn't list any Triumphs), so I suspect Ma's relabeled.

Joker, mine seems pretty firm. Not sure what went wrong, but imagine you can find some "Grip Glue" but labeled "Super Glue" Should work just fine I'd think. Maybe clean your bar end with alcohol or ether or some such cleaner, maybe rough it up with sandpaper. Good luck.

Greg, Just curious, did you match up the left grip to match up w/the throttle grip in idle position or at approx mid throttle postion? I have a set I'm installing and I figure sitting still it will look best if matched up at idle position but from a riding perspective seems like matching up the clutch side grip position w/mid-throttle position might tend to be more comfortable. Or, am I just obsessing too much as usual??? Thanks for any input! Bill

Funny you should ask Bill, but ya know, I didn't give it ANY thought UNTIL I'd slid on the left grip and it was pretty much firm (my glue set fast, when it says in the instructions to decide how it should be oriented before putting the grip on, they aren't kidding. With mine at least, I had to slide it on fast and get it all the way up to the clutch housing, cause a few seconds after I did, I tried turning it, and it was already setting up tight!! Afterwards, I noted in my head that maybe I should have rotated it a bit forward to line up with the right grip at cruising speed, but by then too late, and I haven't given it much thought since. It felt different at first, but I quickly got so used to it, that now I don't even notice. But I would say, if you are really worried, then line it up as close as possible to where the right grip is at cruising speed, so they feel the same. But, yeah, maybe you're being just a little obsessive, I doubt you'll notice any difference once you get used to them....

Anyone who removed the stock grips willing to part with them? We have a set of the Kuryakyn grips on the custom. They don't look right on that bike. Wanting to swap back to stock.

Hi Thinking about ordering those grips myself, they do look good. Do they come with the end cap or do you need to reuse your stock ones. Many thanks
