I seem to remember at least one other thread on this subject. It happened to me on sunday when I was starting up. LOUD backfire (loud enough to rattle the windows and set off car alarms) followed by bits of plastic protruding from under the seat. Although this was not good and will be fixed under warranty, it runs (breathes) better than ever. Has anyone else experienced this or know if this is a widespread problem or common occurrence?

This has been a very widespead problem... And will continue to be. Talk to your dealer and see if you buy the Freak, will they install it for you with warranty hours.

A few on this site have done that... Same amount of labor, maybe less for the dealer.

Happened to me. Now it's gutted with a UNI with the bottom cut out, so I don't think it would actually blow up again.
