I have to adjust my chain for the first time and I was wondering what size socket I need to remove the rear spindle nut? Nothing I have in my tool box is large enough. (Yeah, I know...insert joke here!)

36 mm

Heh?
the rear axle nuts are 22mm and 24mm. The front sprocket is 36mm I believe.

This would have helped me about 3 hours ago.. had to measure.. yes.. front is 36mm.. and back is at least 24.. (I bought 23 and just a hair too ****** small)

Oh well

no biggie.. dealership buggered up and didn't give me the correct sprockets anyways. Off to raise Cain tomorrow and ge the right ones.. hopefully the chain is right.. lol

Fillo,
You will need both a 22 and a 24mm. Almost all of the Triumph nut/bolt combos are like that - one side smaller then the other. Why you ask? I'll tell ya, the engineers (not the ones that drive trains like mert) are smart, this way you do not have to have two of every size to work on the bike.

Okay, did you just call her dumb?? Don't go makin me rush to get my bike back together and take off for a week on a road trip so that I can come out there and twist yer nips....

Alrighty then, chivalry aside and moving into the area of slightly off topic thread hijacking.... In the process of putting my bike back together I factored into the expenses the aquisition of tools since I am in dire need of most anything that doesn't pertain to woodworking. Was thinking I would more than likely just stock up on the Craftman variety but wondering if you guys have other recommendations. Anybody use the Kobalt line carried at Lowes? Husky from the Home Depot? Online retailers with good prices but not junk? I don't really mind spending the money on tools, already quite familiar with that line of thinking, just don't want to think I am getting a good deal only to have a ratchet bust the first time I put any grunt into it, allen wrenches that are softer than the bolt so they just round off ect., ect.

That's it in a nutshell. All of those are good tools and although I prefer Craftsman, you can't go wrong with Kobalt or Husky. They all now do the same lifetime guarantees (at least down here).

Something tells me you are thinking about the cam cap bolts vs the tools?

I have a fondness for Craftsman but I'll have to admit the Kobalt, SK and Mac tools I have are all equally high quality. One caveat, I did shatter a Kobalt 3/8" socket driven 6mm allen when installing a belt drive so those specialty seem a bit more brittle than the Craftsman. For what it's worth, I bought my first Craftsman 1/2" metric set in 1972 for my first mechanic's job and it's still as good as new.
