Anyone know where I can find the huge hex wrench needed to remove my front axle? And while Im at it let me get your oppinions on whether I should do my front end all black, yokes and all, shroud covers, or should I just paint the bottom of the forks black ,remove my fork shroud covers and go for the tradition bobber look. i geuss ones more retro and ones more bobber.

One of my favorites for the front axle 19mm Allen. Take a 1/2"X 1 1/2" or thereabouts bolt, thread a couple of nuts on, tighten them really tight, (use some red locktight if you like), and you have an axle tool to use with a 3/4" socket. 1/2" bolt works because 3/4" and 19mm are so close, there's really no difference.

I used bolts with a head that fit the axle holes on the front with pipe wrenches on the bolts but I have now taken longer bolts and heated the and bent them making axle tools. The large sockets for the rear axle are readily available any where that sells good tools Sears , Snap On , Cornwell , S&K, and even some no nameers like Homier or Cummins mobile tool people. Harbor Freight would be another might even check maybe K Mart or Wal Mart they carry tools but not sure exactly what. K Mart even has a lifetime warrenty now. I picked up a 3/8 flex head ratchet from them in a moment of need and still use it. It's pretty tough and on the couple times I did break it they gave me a new one no hassle. Part of how I earn a living is dismantling cars so I use them hard.

How come your title says rear axle but the post says front? I had to stare at that for 5 minutes. (disclaimer: I haven't had my coffee yet)

I bought a 12mm hex socket at autozone(set of 3 sizes) for 9.99. I put an upside down spark plug socket in the other side and held it with a pipe wrench until I got it loose. i recommend buying a 12mm socket style, I really needed the leverage the ratchet provided. jeff

I bought a 12mm hex wrench and cut about 3 inches off the straight end of it. Then I stuck the 3 inch piece into a 12mm socket and then I could use a ratchet. for the other side a reversed spark plug socket held by a vice grip
if life gives you lemons keep them because hey, free lemons.
