As soon as the front brake lever contacts the brake light switch, it blows the turnsignal/horn fuse. Any ideas on specifically where to look for the short?

Disconnect the foot pedal switch and then try it, they are all wired to the same fuse according to Haynes

I looked at mine since I didn't know where the switch was and it appears to be a hydraulic switch on the frame under the battery box. Have you pulled the tailight bulb out? And, yeah, I know it's a waste of a fuse...but... a short to the fender seems likeliest.

Totally stock. Fuse was blown when I bought it 300 miles ago. Replacements work when installed but blow when I go to ride. Ran tests today and three fuses later, I've identified the rear brake switch as the culprit.

Does it do it with the front brake switch too?

BIG DUMB BY ME! It is the front brake switch. As soon as I squeeze the lever with the key on, it pops. I haven't checked the rear brake switch. I ran out of fuses.

If you have access to an meter you should check the positive lead in the tail light and see if there's a short to ground (zero resistance). It could be as simple as a pinched wire in the tail light housing or in the harness running under the fender and the brake levers are just activating the short circuit.

Took the bike to the dealer today for state inspection and of course it failed because of the fuse problem. I expected that and wanted to see if there were any other problems. There weren't.
The dealer can't service the bike until Sept, and they gave me some ideas where to look, starting with the switch itself right at the lever. He suspects corrosion because the previous owner was less than diligent about keeping it out of the weather.
Anyone else have any ideas where to look, let me know. The first problem will be finding my meter in the boxes from moving.
