"No pleasure, no rapture, no exquisite sin greater... than central air." --Azrael, DogmaOkay, I don't have central air, but I finally got around to installing a window air conditioner in my bedroom that a friend gave me years ago (long story). It works great but it's a tiny one. Now I have one room that's an icebox and it just serves to remind me of just how hot the rest of my house is. At least I'll sleep good. I really need central air.

So it's been what? 100 degrees? How long can that last? What's the avg July temp there? Around 80, 85? Since there is no climatic change occurring (with extremes of weather), this is the only year you'll have to worry about it.

I couldn't imagine life here without AC. Heck, I keep the temp in my car at a constant 65 degrees. I would keep the house the same but my wife would have a fit. So she makes me suffer the 72 degree heat. Phew thats hot for indoors. So i tend to walk around the house semi-naked.
That'al teach her
As you can tell. I tend to like my summers cold. Anything above 65/70 is just to bloody hot.

Why the heck do you think it took me this long to install it? It's been hotter than blazes for us this year (yes, about 100 - that's a lot for western Montana). I've gotten along quite well with fans for the near 7 years I've had my house (before that I was in a basement apartment). It's all about what you're used to. Everything is relative.

I was looking forward to working in Montana Monday through Thursday of last week so I could cool off from the 90 degree weather we've been having in Denver. Covered Bozeman, Missoula, Helena and Great Falls. It was 100 or more three of the four days.
So much for cooling off!

I'd like to pass along some wise words here, but I can't find em.
When its a 100 here, well, I guess that would be Fall... I don't know how people here do it with out AC. Riding the bike is hot. Riding in the boat is hot. How in the heck can you be hot in a convertible, on water?!?!

I remember flying from Denver to Phoenix for a job interview about 11 years ago. It was 85 degrees.
IN FEBRUARY.
I didn't get the job which is probably for the better. I couldn't imagine a life of scurrying from one air conditioned oasis to another.

We have AC in only one room too. Its nice to have a refuge on a hot day when you need it but we rarely use it.

Yeah.....so hot at the mo.... at work we have track washed away on one route and that won't be reopened till the end of the week. We had every route shut on Friday and only a few open yesterday. I shudder to think what it's gonna be like later... all because of rain.
Bring on the real summer....please!

I think there needs to be an addendum to Godwin's Law that states if Nazis, Hitler or the Gore-internet thing get mentioned in any internet conversation, that conversation is immediately considered dead.

I've often said that the inventor of A/C should be the patron saint of Florida , and the day it was invented a Florida state holiday. If there were no air conditioning, I could not live here.

That, my friend, is an understatement! The last time the house AC acted up, we moved into the RV just to survive.

On the other hand, if not for Willis Haviland Carrier, there'd be a lot more open spaces down here...

Yeah, we've had our A/C on non-stop for about 6 weeks too. Glad I retired last year and don't have to be anywhere.

Mr Carrier brought us the abilty to centraly cool our homes. you may thank him?? sometimes i curse him hahahahaha even though he has to be spinning in his grave knowing what they have done to his name and company. and you shouldnt really need anything less than about 75, anything colder just makes it feel worse when you go out. drink plenty of liquids my friends (very important) and take your vitimins because the heat will rob you of these things and when winter comes you wont be ready for it healthwise. rideing actually can drain you of your liquids faster than sittin still, if your rideing, drink plenty of water, keep yourself hydrated!!!!!
ENJOY!!!!! NEWT!!!!!
