Do people really have meaningful lives if they don't own motorcycles?
Here I am getting ready for this NYC dance convention, other parents are all excited about "the trip" and I'm hoping it rains all weekend so I don't feel like I'm missing good riding weather...Now, don't get me wrong- I'm beyond proud of my daughter, and my eyes will well up when she's on stage and I will cheer for the girls till my throat hurts.
In regards to the daughter, in two years she'll be able to drive....she already plans to take the motorcycle safety course, and wants her dad to build her a Buell chopper. This excites me as much as her recent induction into National Junior Honor Society.
When I sit in groups of people, at dinner, etc. and I hear bikes coming along, someone could wave hundred dollar bills in my face and I'd miss it, cuz I'd be looking for the bikes to go by. Additionally, If I'm the one talking at the time, and others stop listening to watch for the bikes, I'm not offended in the least.
I take pictures of ratty old pan/shovel choppers and have them in my phone for no real good reason.
In my on again/off again attempts at dating, if a man doesn't ride....what's the point? (I ended a relationship with a non-riding man a couple of years ago when he asked me to sell my motorcycle. Hey, we're a package deal.)
When I travel, sans MC, I imagine coming back and riding the area.
This year, My Pretty Bonnie has a better Christmas list than I do. I am still embarrased that I didn't give her a stocking last year.

Paula, you're a woman after my own heart.
My co-workers always ask how I can be so happy when I get to work. I tell them any day that starts out with a half-hour motorcycle ride is a good one.

People go to the gym for an hour....I drop my daughter at work or dance class, skurry home, and hop on the bike for 45 minutes and take a ride through the backroads and by the local lake. Feel fully restored. Who needs cardio???

You know...I find myself doing the same. My g/f has a little brother who plays Baseball (they are currently at state chanpionships). I like seeing the kid play but I hate it when its on a nice day. I find myself looking off into the blue sky thinking about where I could be at that time. What kills me is that she rides a TBA too. I really hate it when I wait for her to come home so WE can go ride adn she gets home late or "doesnt feel like it". If the roads werent so screwed up form the rain today Id be out riding...but I did get to work on her (my TBA) a bit today. EZ brackets, rewire the driving lights and AI removed...it was a good day!

Yea ...I think people have meaningful lives who dont own or ride scooters. Some of those peoples are "Dancers"
I know lots of really good ...(some astoundingly good) dancers and I always tell them that there are strong parallels that link riding and dancing in terms of enjoyment and that strange sense of good karma we all get whether it be from riding or dancing.
At times a good partner dance can raise the same feeling of pure fun that I get riding on a twisty two lane well maintained road.
Partner dance requires good connectivity between the two (follower and the leader) as well as good execution of technique and sound musical timing.
A motorcycle dance is similar in that the leader (rider) gives input to the follower (the bike) in metered timed correct doses of throttle , clutch, subtle weight shifts, countersteering et al to bring out the best possible dance.
The only key difference is that our bikes have a set level of aerodynamic performance and handling whereas in a partner dance both leader and follower may have variable levels of performance, experience , musicology, and rythm and timing.
How fast and with how much confidence we can ride as leaders in our scooter dance is all up to the degree of skill we attain as leaders.
I know a few people who are not professional ball room dancers or swing dancers but there entire lives are wrapped around dancing. They live to dance and dance to live like a lot of bikers ride to live and live to ride.
No doubt.

I know what you mean. My office mates think I am weird everytime I look out the window when a mc goes by. On casual Friday I always seem to have a Triumph t-shirt on. Dating... what's that. I'd rather save that money for something for my TBA or a weekend bike trip. And sometimes I wonder how I ever was married 10 years to a person who thinks motorcycles are juvenille. Of course come to think of it, I didn't have a bike during those 10 years. You sound perfectly normal to me T-Goddess.

Paula,
Can't disagree with anything you said. I know the feeling well. I am going on vacation to Utah and Nevada next week. Unfortunately, I am taking the car. I wanna ride!!

One more thing... those that don't ride and accuse us of being obsessed are just jealous and just don't understand at all. Soren

I found there is no time to date becuase I'm riding my bike, making stuff for my bike or working to make money to use to take my bike somewhere. Finding a really nice guy with a bike will have to wait till fate takes over I guess.

I had to take my car to the shop today and I could really care less when they get it back to me cause I only drive it when I have to.

I know the feeling. Ok so I've not been making bits, but getting the 03 back on the road has been a big priority, and now that's done there's the 3HW. And just tinkering with 06 cosmetically is time consuming...

03 America - Pretty stock - except the TBS wheel...
06 America - missing, presumed in bits. With it's TBS wheel...
09 America - It's very blue....

I would say almost certainly YES. Not everybody likes motorcycles, and im sure those who dont would argue with till they were blue in the face that they have meaningful lives.
Personaly, my bike is a toy. I enjoy riding it and ride it when ever i can, but if it went away tomorrow it would not be the end of the world, just a sad day. I have so many things going on in my life and so many things that i enjoy that the bike is only a small part of it.
Example. Play with children or ride the bike. No contest, bike stays parked. Watch Arsenal play or ride bike. No contest, watch the Arsenal. Watch the F1 race or ride bike. No contest, watch the race.
I enjoy riding, but i equally enjoy driving cars. I have always had a love for cars. I get so much enjoyment from driving my car though the country with the roof open, a/c on cool and great sounds comming through the speakers. Not to mention that riding a bike in 100 degree weather flat out sucks. Just as it can be to cold to ride, so can it be to bloody hot. And if someone wants to call me a fairweather rider, so be it. I've done my time riding in snow and sleet. 10 years of London despatch riding is enough for any one.
And, as i have stated before. If someone was to offer me a Jag E-Type or a Ferrari in exchange for my bike. I would jump at it and not think twice.
So in answer to your quesation. Yes, i have and would continue to have a very meaning full life. With or without the bike.

If its a tossup tween my Family (1 Great Wife + 3 Sons + 1 Daughter + 2 Grandchildren )and a ride, the Family comes out on top everytime. All my tribe luvs motorcycling and will come to Rallies & events. I decide on a pillion (after a ****** of a brawl & subsequent mediation session usually the night before) then the good wife will drive the remainder of the tribe to the event in the car.My 15 year old Daughter didn't talk to me for 2 days and didn't want to even look at the new America cause she was under the impression that I was selling my silver Norton to finance the Triumph - not so, now she talks to me. I thing I got it pretty good Hoffo

Yes, they're just not people like us. Lots of people out there look for different meaning in their lives and that's okay too. For me, riding is freedom and freedom means a lot in my life.
