Well we all sit here contemplating what may be the Speedmaster replacement. Have any of us ever thought about placing one of the best motorcycle motors in the world into it. I think I could quite easily live with the following specification in my frame.

Engine
Type Liquid-cooled, DOHC, in-line 3-cylinder
Capacity 1050cc
Bore/Stroke 79 x 71.4mm
Compression Ratio 12.0:1
Fuel System Multipoint sequential electronic fuel injection
Ignition Digital - inductive type - via electronic engine management system

Transmission
Primary Drive Gear
Final Drive X ring chain
Clutch Wet, multi-plate
Gearbox 6-speed

Performance (Measured at crankshaft to DIN 70020)
Maximum Power 115PS (114bhp) at 9,400 rpm
Maximum Torque 100Nm (74ft.lbf) at 6,250 rpm

Remember Triumph is about “Going Your Own Way” and being different. They broke the rules by designing the triple and broke them even further by putting it into the Tiger.

Yeah Dave!
I always figured that if I had to buy a new engine or trans, some serious customization along those lines would be in order.

Someone with more money/time/talent than me should take a page from some of the Metric Revolution contestants, buy a Tiger, and strip it down to make a custom chopper.

How do you know the 1050 is one of the best it the world? I thought it was a new motor and has yet to be fully tested.

If memory severs me correctly it won the award for motor of the year.

Im not sure who voted for it. It may be a very good motor, but not in a Speedy. 2 pots and carbies please, about 1500cc, oh and air cooled please.

I would be every surprised if we did ever see something like this. They would stick to the mainstream twine.

However if it was just a motor change I would be in for a triple Speedmaster after all it is all about being different. Since I have been riding the Speedmaster I have never seen another on the road. I have come across a few America’s. You know how great it is to go to a rally and know you have one of a kind there.

That's how I feel too Dave. You rarely ever see Speedmasters or America's on the road. Makes me feel more like an individual. Kinda like our slogan say's. "Go your own way".

Interestingly enough when I was at the dealer the sales guy suggested that the new motor would be the 1050 punched out to 1200 for the mid size bike.
Keep in mind this was the sales guy and not the owner so he probably doesn't have the same information.

Hmmm... that 1050 in a Speedy frame. That would be some fast cruiser. Pretty cool too. Smells like a Hurricane to me.

No way. One of the reasons I bought my SM was because it was a twin.

If you want a triple, go buy one. There's plenty on the market without ever bastardizing our beautiful bikes.

Twin or triple. I dont mind either way. They are both traditional engine layouts for Triumph.

Just make it aircooled and i will be happy. If its water cooled then I really dont care what they do. I wont buy a water cooled cruiser. Sport bike, now thats a different beast.

I can see it now, John Bloor running down the Triumph corridors shouting at his designers. Change the design, change the design, Arsenafan wont buy a water cooled Triumph cruiser.

I am sure you are expecting a phone call from him any second now to ask you, "Why Not?"

The in-line triple would drastically change the seating orientation on the Speedy.

He was fun while he lasted.

One thing I have never understood is why manufacturers that build sport bikes and crusiers do not use those hotter faster motors in their crusiers. Instead they put in larger heavier and slower ones in them. For example the Daytona 675, it is one of the fastest out of the box bikes out there, why not shove a motor like that (or the 1050) into a cruiser frame? (Even if it is a one-off custom bike)

It's because of the market demographics on what the buyers want. There are power cruisers.

Very high performance engines such as those in sportbikes tend to be much higher maintenance than the average cruiser buyer wants to deal with. Especially if ridden the way most cruiser riders prefer to ride.
