Help! I installed a lightbar a month ago. It worked great, now if I touch the light housing while the lights are on fuse #8 blows! Only the lightbar goes out, everything else works fine. Where should I start looking? THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!

There is an easy fix- DON'T touch the housing.

Sorry, I couldn't help myself. I'm sure a helpful site member will be along shortly...

As anyone who knows me will tell you, I'm no genius, but it sounds like you've got a faulty ground. Aviators, water and electricity all take the path of least resistance. Have you tried turning on the lights, getting off your bike and then touching the bar? If the fuse remains intact, you probably are shorting the thing out when on your bike, by providing a less resistant conduit for the juice. BTW you wouldn't necessarily get shocked.

Any landing you can walk away from is a good one.

The fuse blows weather I'm on or off the bike.If I turn the switch on,then start the bike they work fine. As soon as someone touches them they go out.THANKS FOR YOUR REPLY.

Might be a short in the switch housing... I'd pull it apart and make sure all of the wire insulation is in tact.

My lightbar was doing the same thing. Turns out the left lamps' hot wire was grounding out on the inside of the housing and that happened in spite of me having wrapped that connection with electrical tape. So drop each lens and look for a spot on one of the wires (or at the connector) that is charcoal in color. Fix it and work the wires were they won’t rub on anything.

Could be worse, you could be blowing the lamp itself!

Open up the light housing, there is a pinched or bare wire that is being shorted to ground when you disturb the housing. If it is that sensitive, it will eventually start blowing the fuse every time you go over a bump.

THANKS, guys you were right. It appears to have been the switch wire touching the back of the light housing. Simple fix. I just bent the switch terminal and taped everything up real good in both light housings. THANKYOU ALL!! Steve
