Hey New Yorkers-

My daughter's national dance competition is coming up this coming weekend....We're staying in Times Sq.....any good Triumph/other MC shops I should try to get to to keep myself amused while she's dancing at master classes? We parents are going to have lots of free time....

Also, a return driving question...We finish up around 4 PM on Monday. How long of a drive home are we looking at (to MA) given traffic in NY and CT? We could stay til Tuesday, but I'd rather not spend the hotel money- but if it's a choice between sanity and money, I choose sanity every time. Any thoughts on how to best manage the return trip?
Thanks!

I think there's only one Triumph dealer in Manhattan. You might wander down to Sixth Street Specials.
You might even find your way into McSorley's Ale House.

at 155 Ave of the Americas you'll find NY Ducati (and Triumph).
it's a much funkier(funky in a good way) part of
Manhattan than Times Square, which is nothing
more than middle america with a lot of neon.

leaving NYC at 1600 on a monday afternoon is an
absolute horror show. didisayhorrorshow? yup.
it could take an hour just to get out fo the city
and an hour 45 just to get from the state line of
CT to new haven. ask me how i know. g'head...ask.

let sanity prevail and leave NY tuesday morning
at around 0930. or....stay in the city until about 2000
on monday night. you'll hit some traffic, due to construction in CT, but you won't be
battling the brunt of rush traffic.

As far as Triumph shops...the one on 6th ave & spring street blows. Primarily a Ducati dealerhip, but they're selling the everliving heck outta Triumphs. If you want brake pads, they'll give you the wrong ones, if you want to order a basic part, it'll take 'em 45 minutes to pull up the part #. 6th St. Cycles is a great shop who deals solely with vintage Trumps, but my Thruxton buddy in town is friends with the owner and has the first new Triumph that they ever worked on...and they have close ties to a local metal shop for any custom parts imaginable. Even still, they're reluctant to even talk to someone with a new model.

Traffic wise...all depends on your intended hour of departure. PM me with your details and I'll give you some advice when I'm sober.

Thanks folks- I'm driving with another dance mom/daughter....was thinking of at least staying in NYC for the dinner hour to let the work traffic die down...

Do what Shari said. Kick back, have some food, then head out. Which way do you go home? 95 sucks any way you crunch it. I have better luck either taking the merrit to 91 or 684 up to 84. Both suck at rush hour, but the merrit doesn't have trucks so it dies down, and 684/84 is a little more predictable.

The plan is now that we hang out, have dinner, wait for rush hour to die down, and then do the drive.

So...is the collective wisdom, avoid 95 and go via 684 then 84? I think I recall doing that once years ago coming back from Daytona Bike Week.

I appreciate the feedback!
