OK...I know they are simple. But my biggest headaches when working on any motor is a 2 stroke. My Troy-bilt weed trimmer is only a year old, and quit working without the choke on at least halfway. I figured just a blockage in the main mixture and would just turn the screw in and back it out the same amt of turns for starters. Well, there is a 'Special' tool that the #$%*& EPA mandated the mfg. uses now, and will impose a $10,000 fine if they sell it to consumers! Soooo, now I'm gonna have to try to get to the carb, grind down the special guards that keep ya from using needlenose, and then slot the screws in order to work on it myself! Did I say how much I hate 2 strokes!?! AND the EPA!? *^*&%&%& !!! They gotta keep us from working on our own equipment for our own good! OK...I vented... Any suggestions? How about good suggestions? later, Tom.
But, what do I know?

Last year I threw an armload of weedeaters in the garbage and bought an electric. Lost too much riding time fiddling with those things.

I'm with Yota ,clean or remove the spark arrester screen first. At work we've got 8 Eco string trimmers, after the first season they all ran bad till we took out the screen.

Conversely, I have a 15 year old lawn-boy that gets used 1 – 2 times per week, cutting about 16,000 square feet of grass at varying slope. I have changed one (yes 1) spark plug and one float needle in that time – and I never drain or treat the gas.
I would also lay a bit of praise to the sweet, sweet 2 cylinder, 2 stroke, 350 cc engine of my old Yamaha R5C, - Yes, labor intensive - But it would run the balls off of most bikes three times the size.
And - that blue haze does wonders for mosquito control!!!

Yes, I like my 2 strokers as well. Love that billowing blue castor oil smoke! I use castor oil in my weedeater just for the smell. Weedeater cranks on the 2nd or 3rd pull after sitting all winter without any maintenance. These are not the weedeater.

Dont know much about yard machines, when mine break i go buy new ones.
But Two Strokes...love them. I can think of a few Two Stroke Jap bikes that i would love to own. The sound of the ringa-ding-ding and all that blue smoke. A true holligans bike. Oh yes, give me a Suzuki GT 750 'Kettle', or a Suzuki RG5000 Gamma (Square 4) or a Yamaha RD500 LC (V4). Oh what Bliss, i go week at the knees just thinking of those three.

That's a sweet Yamaha you have there...well maybe I don't hate ALL 2 strokes! Tried running it without the filter in place and same problem. Put my hand over the air intake at full throttle, hoping to create enough suction to clear it a few times and still runs the same. Took a piece of a wood shim and jammed it in the choke lever to lodge it at half position and was able to finish the yard.... Yeah, I know, I Harley engineered it! later, Tom.

I absolutely loved my 1971 Kawasaki H-1 500 triple cylinder two-stroke, it may have been the fastest production bike in it's class back then (memory is kinda hazy) and it came with drag bars from the factory. I tore Oahu up on that thing in 1972...'til I got busted for too much smoke

My 24 year old Lawn Boy still starts on the second pull. And cut faster than any other mower I've ever used. But my 3 year old Stihl trimmer requires lots of pulls to start.

I tell ya though, nothing like the sound an old CZ or Maco single 500 would make. Sounded like someone hitting a railroad iron with a huge sledgehammer. DANG DANG DANG...music to old motox'rs ears.
A word to the wise is not necessary. It is the stupid ones who need the advice.
