my bonneville america has 21,000 miles and has its original chain.....I don't believe that there is a "soft link" in it....will a chain cutter/riveter tool push out one of the pins (once the head is ground off of course) or are the pins welded to the side plates?......I suppose I could always get a bolt cutter to get the old chain off.....

I used the Motion Pro cutter/riveter and once the old rivet heads were ground down, they pushed out easily with this tool. Also used it to peen over the new rivet. Worked great all around. You just have to make sure everything is aligned (tool & rivet).

Some are talking about going to a 530 size sprocket and chain, instead of our 525 size, for added longevity. Info is in tech vault.

the motion pro chain breaker and riveting tool is the same one I just bought.....was the rivet that you ground off and pushed out a "soft link" rivet or just one of the standard rivet/pins?

Our chains are endless so I just picked one link at the back to grind. I also soaked a rag and laid it on the hub to catch as much of the crap as I could...

I ground the head off a random link and pushed it thru with the chain tool. Next time I'm just going to cut it in two, throwing it away anyhow.

why not just use bolt cutters to get the old chain off? or an air cutter?
