Install a new floor today... (and tomorrow, and so on)

... why is it I'd rather go back to sleep?

Sure you don't want to put in more time planing this project. Lets see maybe a ride over to Toymakers for lunch.

Now that's a different take on the 7 year itch.

Martin, my parents are getting their floors re-done this week. Paps called me last night and said they are saving 200 bucks by removing the furniture themselves, but it almost cost them a divorce Some things are worth the money I suppose! Good thing my mom held onto the mini van, the old couch fit all the way in it for the trip to the dump!

I joined a procrastinators club.

But they kicked me out for coming to the meeting.

Now thats funny.

Good luck laying the new floor. I laid a new deck last weekend. 15ft x 36ft. Fhew, what a job. I was shattered after that.

Quick Step Uniclic

http://qs2006.quick-step.com/main.aspx?id=6

Eligna Antique Oak in the living room, Quadra Nero 'tiles' in the kitchen and hall. I've been struggling with the fake floors / laminate concept for awhile, but finally gave in.

After a trying experience with HD taking a whack at my Mother's house flooring job, I try to avoid the big box stores, so I bought from the local family owned hardware & lumber store in case I need some help down the line. It turned out to be a stroke of luck in that the local store has a full time flooring guy who was once a contractor, and has been to Uniclic school. He came over for a few hours and gave us a tutorial, and loaned me his Uniclic specific tools and his table and mitre saws.

I love small town life.

Phil,

Those pictures look great! What was the brand name on that laminate? It looks gorgeous. I am going to redo my dining room after a dishwasher leak messed up my flooring. Your looks much nicer than what I had. I went with the dupont version about 3 years ago, that incorporates the foam underlayment to eliminate the need to lay that down separately. I didn’t have the results you did though.

Beautiful flooring Phil. Hope ours looks half that good. My wife is happy, so as far as home projects go, that's a home run. Just gotta finish up the edges/ round the bases now, and not make any screw ups, at least not where she would notice anyway. The tile floor is black, so a Sharpie...

Between visitors and a defective underlayment issue, I lost about a day's progress. No biggie.

OK Phil,

Maybe this question belongs in Misc or Accessories, but what do you use to shine the floor up so nice. I installed an oak floor two years ago and mostly use a clean sponge and water, but it doesn't "shine" like that. It's 1/4" oak on a backing, 1'x2' sections tongue and grooved together.

This home ownership gig is seriously cutting into valuable riding time ...........

Thanks all. It's a Pergo-like laminate. Came in 6" wide by 42" long I got from a local laminate store. I do not have any manufacturer info though, sorry. It has the foam under it, separately installed. I also used plastic as a vapor barrier.

The shine is built in, believe it or not. It still looks that good after 5-6 years too.

We put in an engineered wood floor (not laminate - Bruce by Armstrong?) a couple of years ago. It was pretty easy, came out great and we save about $700 in labor.

OK - here's the part I'm confused on - when they install these floors on TV, howcum they can do the whole house in 60 minutes, and I'm looking at closer to 60 days?

It's like the stone walls I'm building, (or not) - I see now why so many masons drink & drug to excess. Sure looked easier on TV.
