After spending hours reading all your post's on this site I finally decided to go with Ventura L Bracket's & sports rack £150.
I looked at all the other options mentioned but this is the most practical for me.
Reasons.
The sports rack allows passenger to move further back on seat and they can grip the rail. No more banging of heads when braking hard.(Touring seat fitted)
As well as using the rack for Luggage you can place bags on rear seat and use bungees hooking around L Brackets.
Already had bags & ties from previous bike.
Cost.
Fitting takes about 1/2 hour.
Chrome finish is excellent.
2 new bolts provided.
Only problem. Existing 2 bolts re-used are in a recess and had to buy a slim extension 14mm socket to tighten up as normal socket too short.

Ventura also do a tall rack & luggage if req.

Overall impressed looks ok fitted with touring seat.

Will it work with saddlebag brackets?

The L brackets are supplied with four washers. These are only required for width adjustment. I never needed them.
1st & 3rd fixing bolts used on side rail to attatch L brackets.
The only way saddle bag brackets could be used would be if the ends bolted to bike were flat like washers & you would be able to adjust width by adding extra washers to forward fixing bolt which would give correct space at rear for connecting attachement.

Is it strong enough to lean on?
Ventura do a tall rack with bag & recommend turning rack inwards when riding alone. When carrying a passenger turn rack out.
This system is solid I carry passengers & they hold onto the rail its not tall enough to be used as a back rest but it is designed to carry alot of luggage.
