I was experiencing an unusual problem on a ride yesterday in that the engine was intermitantly losing power any time I was buffeting the wind. fine off the wind but as soon as I turned in to the wind the problem returnded. Hwy speeds no problem with accelleration but at steady thottle position power will come and go. Feels like a the rev limiter cutting in but at 4-5k rpm. Anyone experienced this?

790 with short TOR dynojet kit 130 s 4 turns out drilled air box stock paper filter for now.

I think I have and what I think is causing it is simply the change in wind speed. So when the wind picks up it feels like a power loss then when it slows it feels like power returns. Then runs fine with no wind. Made me take notice at first too. Never really felt it on any other bike I have had.

I did not have any power loss problems last time I rode in the wind so no ... something has changed I did find one of the plugs on the air box drains was missing could be the source, but it still felt more like an electrical cut out I was wondering about the kickstand shut off wiring getting pushed around by the wind. now have to wait for another windy day to see if I have it licked.

Also going to take tools and somthing to block off the hole where I drilled the air box to see if that makes a difference could be low pressure being created at the bottom of the airbox by the wind gusts that acctually pulls air away from the filter. In the top and out the bottom.

Just drop a cardboard cutout in under the air filter to test whether the airbox mod is causing it.

I am inclined to think that I have a bad ignition controller the bike is a 2003 but only has just over 2000km on it sounds like a quite few of the 2003 had problems

I recently felt that too and I had no mods at the time. It was pretty wndy though so I chalked it up to what Dog was saying...wind resistance.

It kinda freaked me out but I figured its under warranty whatever it is so if she dies Ill be ok.

I had a wierd moment yesterday passing a ginormous dump truck; when I got into the full blast turbulence parallel to his front end, the bike began sputtering. A hard twist of the throttle put the power back on and once clear of the turbulence it seemed pretty okay. Still has me scratching my head...stock air box, no snorkle, K&N air filter...some kind of vacuum effect?

Still working this one windy days definitely cause the problem and no it is not just resistance there is a definite cut out. I am hoping it is a n air box issue and it wil go away when I fir the K& N s which are in the mail.

I might piddle about under the seat and scope out the air intake issue this weekend. Something seems amiss and I can't quite understand it yet. Eventually one of the Freak or other kits is in my future since air flow is what makes horsepower...
