This could be the dumbest question of all time. I took off the rear pegs and the plates they are attaced to. It seems that the rear mounting piece of the pipes is integrated with the lower screw for mounting the peg plate. I assume it is thus important that the screw be put back in, but it won't go all the way. Are my pipes gonna come loose? I should get a space I suppose, but is it safe to ride until then? Call me

Yes, you do need to support the pipes at that back bracket. I also removed that plate, and then I put the passenger footpegs in those holes (with the mounting brackets for the pipes behind them). One washer in there, and it tightens up just fine.

if you don't have a spacer or at least a large washer the pipe bracket couuld walk off or at least the rubber bushing could fall out.

Without the peg hanger you need to replace with a bolt that's 25mm long, I found that at the metric bin in the True Value store here in town.

What Oldroadie said. Take the bolt to your local hardware store and match it up with a suitably shorter metric bolt and a fender washer. If you want to be fancy, rattlecan the bolt head and washer black.

Actually I managed to find a nice set of black allen heads for mine. A light coat of rust converter and it's good to go.
