Spotted this on the trat.net forum. Guy hit a deer on his Trophy 1200 and rashed the fairing, so he took it off and put on a Trident headlight and gauges. Now this has me thinking...dangerous I know. I want a more touring capable bike, but wince at the thought of the FJR1300, Honda ST1300 and the rest of their ilk, because the last thing I want is riding behind a full fairing in 100+ degree weather that we get in Arizona. And there's plenty of people that complain about the heat those bikes give off through the fairing onto their legs. Trophy 1200s are fairly cheap these days, low mileage examples go for $5000 or less. Hmm...I wonder what it would look like with the hard bags on? He's also got another pic with a small speed triple like fairing mounted above the headlight.

I liked those Trophys. It's another Triumph model I wish they still made.

Derek, I'd say offhand, if that puppy was a 900(actually 885cc)triple, I'd jump on this in an instant. But because the 1200cc Triumph fours have always pretty much reminded me of a UJM(not necessarily a bad thing, but basically "nondescipt") in nature, whereas the triples tend to be somewhat more "distinctive", and they supply almost as much power as the fours while being a tad lighter. Plus the fours actually tend to "buzz" more than the triples do also, due the lack of a needed balance-shaft on the fours, and so I'd personally pass on it. (but you know me, I love the old triples...but not the old slag-clutch they put in 'em) Though, I have to admit that this bike is not a bad lookin' post-crash "standard".
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Put an underseat exhaust and dual headlights on that and you'd swear it was a speed tripple from a distance!!! That would be a sweet giant killer I think it would look great with bags and different pipes.

Stay away from an under seat exhaust. My son had a CBR with under seat and complained a lot. I rode the Daytona 675 last week, I now understand his complaints. I thought my thighs would melt. Not for me bro. Mike

In that case definitely get bags for it cause those pipes look out of place.

The Trophy is OUTSTANDING and has a timeless fairing.....sold mine to a friend after 100k miles and picked up a '97 Sprint (with no miles) to keep Bonnie-A company....But Trophy (3 or 4) es muy bueno !

So Daniel, tell me more about that Trophy you had. Any problems out of the ordinary? Most I've heard/read is that the coils can sometimes go tango uniform. What were the best tires you tried for durability and handling?
