i've heard of guys removing that small lip on the bottom of the tank and have even seen some in pics.

i was wondering what guys have done to remove or "bang in" this lip. A hammer? dremel?

what's up?

Ive got a black BA and when I bought it 2nd hand the bloke I bought it off had fitted white rubber moulding over the seam. Its a satin type finish on the moulding and it doesnt look too bad.If I knew how to post a photo I would.Im not sure if you could get it in black but I imagine you could. It just pushes on as its a channel shape.

That's the seam where they weld the tunnel portion to the outer portion. Monkeying with it in any way is begging for a leak. That said, I'm waiting to see if someone goes to the trouble of cutting it off and butt-welding the two tank parts together. That would be the "proper" way of doing it, much like shaving drip rails off a car.

No seam, no welding, no leaks,

just a little puddy shaped and sanded before paint.

i didn't think about putty. if i ever decide to get the tank painted that would be the way to go. wasn't sure if there was a way to pound it up or not.

p.s. love what you did with it.

That seam is definitely an eyesore on the bike. It just screams "cost cutting" by T and was almost a dealbreaker when I looked at the America. I won't be too upset if something happens to my paint, cause I'll have the chance to fix it! I just don't have the ____ yet to start messing around with '06 paint.

Larkfarms, I like the look.

Can someone explain to the n00b what was done? I'm having a bit of painting/filling done myself soon and may as well get the seam done at the same time. I hadn't noticed the fooker until someone pointed it out!!! Bah!

I think basically he "filled in" around that seam, to blend the tank cirve down to the edge of the seam.

Ya know, when you're riding you can't see the tank seam.

I used 3M trim tape to install my LED's in behind the seam. It hides them perfectly and gives a nice glow to the top of the engine. jmo
