What size hangers are you guys using? I have been looking at some 15" ones. As of right now, I do not have the low profile seat, but I am working on getting it. That is supposed to lower you by 2.75" from stock.

If anyone has suggestions, they would be appreciated.

A couple have bobbed and totally customized the bike adding, I think, 12" hangers.

If you have used them before and know the risk, excuse me for my warning. Ape Hangers cause a serious fulcrum disadvantage on low speed turns and recovery. In short, very unsafe situation. Kinda like using a nut-driver in place of a big wrench. You will not have the strength to recover them and will very likely over steer once you get the wheel turning in a panic situation.

If you have used them before then you know this so disregard the above.

I have 14 inch apes on my SM with a single low profile seat. It is a beeaatttchhh to ride in a slow turn, but is very comfortable goin down the road. Plus, stock cables fit right up except for the wiring to the accessories and starter, horn, etc...But I had to splice them anyway to run inside the bars. MAKE SURE you buy a set of 1 inch bars though! Dont be fooled into buying the 7/8" triumph bars you will see in places like ebay or whatever. 12 inch will give you a nice look, though! ANYONE got a picture to help out this mans decision on what size to get?

Best looking black girl around! 2004 SM-spokes, solo seat, lowered rear, 14 in apes, bobber rear fender, no front fender. Flat black all the way around. Jeff

Is it advisable to get bars with knurling? Or is that not really effective on our machines?

I guess for the purposes of adding Ape hangers of any significant height the bike essentially becomes a "bar hopper" handling wise.

I dont care for them but to each their own.

I like to be able to maneuver in traffic ,make U turns as quickly and as smoothly as I can without worrying about ending up on my keister.

I am looking at a 10" set. Got them at a swap meet for $5. Apparently you can now get caps for the harley risers. So I may even go that way I have a set of 4" that my brother gave me. Still not sure.

I would love to see the 14" apes as well. After lowering the rear end and having my new seat made, I still haven't made a handlebar decision.
