I noticed that Dinqua says to make sure you can tell the front (motor) from the rear (carb) of the intake rubbers when you reinstall them after rejetting. Dammned if I can tell the difference, and yet I know not to doubt the Dinq. Anyone know how to tell front from back (not up from down). Thanks.

I had the same problem...this may sound too basic, but look at the indents from your clamps. You will notice there is a very slight bend in the rubber. After installing, step back a few feet and eyeball the rubbers to make sure they are straight and you will be fine. Happy hunting.

Good timing on this thread. Tonight, I re-installed my stock intake rubbers after removing aftermarket ones. I did this because the aftermarket ones seemed to have stretched ( ) and were losing serious vacuum. They would not stay on and once I removed the clamps, they were extremely loose!! The stockers have been 'in storage' for about 18 months so I had no idea about orientation. I took off the Freak brackets and Bellacorse carb brace to give me as much room as possible and when I tried the rubbers in one direction, they would not go on. A good look at the rubbers showed a '4 tab' indent on one side and none on the other. Looking at the carbs and manifolds, it was clear that the indents belonged on the manifold side. Check yours out for the same indents as Jeff says. Also, for top to bottom orientation, there is a mold 'edge' on the rubbers at top and bottom so getting them straight up and down is easy (the wider part goes up top). Finally, and on mine at least, there is blue paint on what turned out to be the rearmost clamp screw so that should help too.

Ok lets get this finished the divider between the clamps is wider on top narrow on bottom. now for the front to back ( engine to carb ) there is a small raised tab on the top of the boot this is the front ( engine ) side of the boot. see arrow in photo

I have had them on and off and on enough times , I should know. now if I can just let my Triumphs be, I can get to work on my BMW. I have ridden it one time and I got it almost a year ago!

The bike runs much better with the intake boots in the correct direction. Ask me how I know.
