Hey folks:
So I didnt get the Tach on my new America and now am having a hard time hearing / feeling it as I thought I would be able to...
Can someone talk about speed in each gear vs. rpm"s on the stock '07 America?

Get yourself some good sounding, un-resticted pipes, re-jet,
and shift when you hit the rev-limiter.

Spoken like a true pro.....Charlie is spot on - your trumpy likes to run with high revs - if you overdo it, you will know!

I have the 18T front sprocket and 70 in 5th is 4K revs.

Take the plunge and get a tach - maybe 160.00 or so , feels better to know where you are , it 's disconcerting to be in the dark about your vital signs on any vehicle or equipment . Even without a tach , there is an innate sense of what is or is not acceptable limits , you can hear , feel , or sense a " flat spot " where you have attained max . power for that gear range .

I have an 07 Speedmaster now at 2000kms. I feel like I am needing to change gears due to the high revs even though my tacho only says about 5000rpm. Is this because the bike is still new ? I would love to get near the rev limiter but feel like Ill blow the bike up.
Want to look after the bike as well.

You can get an aftermarket tach for less than half that.

Derek, you will absolutely NOT blow her up. Rev it, trust me. You are getting into the power band passing 5k so you should feel that power if you keep her twisted! You don't have to hit the limiter but you can definitely go to 7k without a problem. These motors were designed to be revved!

I used Whitt's instructions when I installed mine, just made my own mount for it.

My 07 Speedie (700miles(=1100km)) is just beginning to wake up at 5k RPM and gets smoother the more revs I give it. Just hold on tight!!!

Just outta curiosity, how did you break the bike in?

With the tachometer that you guys have, do I need a mechanical or electronic tach. How easy is it to hook up?

The Triumph tach can be bought for $140. It looks great, drops in dash and plugs to existing connector. I know many guys don't want to pay that, but mine works great and I'm glad I did.

Same here,I have the stock one in my SM and put the stock on in Wendys America. Very easy job drops right in and plugs into an existing plug. Works well and couldn't be easier to install.

this is the text from my old post. its not hard to do at all.

"I installed the Drag Specialties Tach yesterday. It was easy to install and works great. I wired it up using the factory wires under the dash. There is a 2 wire plug under the dash the red wire is to the coil and the green and red wire is hot with the ignition on. The tach has 4 wires. You wire it Green to the Red coil wire, Black to ground (I used the Brown ground wire for the clock), Red is hot for the tach and Blue it hot for the light I wired them both to the Green/Red hot for the tach."

Tach = Wires under dash
Green = Red
Black = Brown
Red = Green/Red
Blue = Green/Red

I guess you could go Blue to the hot for the light in the clock, but I don't know what the color for that wire is.

Thanks for the post. It worked perfect. I bought a DS tach last week got it and put it on yesterday. Works great!! I'm thinking of changing the lighting color/looks. I've got a green TBA, and was wanting to do a green backlight on the speedo and tach. I'll post pics when I'm finished. Thanks for all your help guys.

I'm now going to install green bulbs into the speedo and tach to keep the green thing going as you see I've got on the other parts of the bike.
